Today we’d like to introduce you to Kurt and Connie Sperry.
Kurt and Connie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Kurt is a competitive bodybuilder. He just had his 50th B-day. About 3 years ago he was prepping for Masters Nationals in Pittsburg and he injured his knee about 6 weeks out from the show. He was going to have to drop out and was very upset. I did some research on how to speed recovery from an injury and stumbled across Cryotherapy. We found a facility in Dallas to try it out and it worked much better than expected. We both started using it regularly but the drive was about 45 minutes one way. The more I researched the more I realized that this therapy was the stepping stone to a whole new industry that centered around wellness and recovery. We decided in May on 2015 to open a store close to our home and make sure our prices were affordable to all. This therapy should not only be reserved for the ultra-rich and elite athletes, everyone could benefit in one way or another. We opened in December 2015 and have since expanded our store 3 times and added 6 other recovery modalities,
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Neither Kurt or I had previously owned a business. We both had much to learn about all the different aspects of a successful business. We are both prior military, he retired with 24 years in the Navy and I did 2 years in the Army, we both believed there was nothing we couldn’t do if we set our minds to it. We were originally scheduled to open in July 2015 but we were shut down by the city of Arlington. They had never heard of Cryotherapy and when their city electrical inspector found out we were going to be exposing people to nitrogen gas below -250 degrees F they were very unwilling to let us move forward. Eventually with the help of some friends at the chamber of commerce, the local city councilors and the fire marshal we were able to open in December. The biggest challenge for us has been trying to help educate the general public on the different modalities we offer and how they can benefit. Cryo is becoming more mainstream so we are definitely winning the battle.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Absolutely! There are too many to list but there are a couple that stand out. First, Esteban Blanco CEO of Blanco IT held our hands and walked us though the steps to start the business and supported our fight with the city to help us get open. Without Esteban, we would not be here. Our employees, Kim, Liz, Meredith, these ladies look after our customers like family. Our children who help out at the front desk and put up with us working 24/7 to make this store successful Tyler, Carmin, Jurni, and Smanatha. Our first clients, Angie Burt and Vijay Theegula, they have been with us since day one and they advocate for our business every chance they get. Our partners, Chris Chappell with Hydropros, Jason and his family at Glo Sunspa, Matt at Icon Meals, and Corey Proctor at Killcliff.
