Meet Mollie Milligan and Brian Fabian of Boxcar Creative in Deep Ellum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mollie Milligan and Brian Fabian.

Mollie and Brian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Brian Fabian started Boxcar in his basement in 2001. After studying at OSU for graphic design, Brian began his career as a pioneer in web development. He built many first generation websites and road the dot.com wave with significant success.

While Brian was laying the Boxcar foundation, I had completed my BA at Baylor and my MFA at SMU, I left for Los Angeles. I spent 5 years as an actress in LA LA Land. And, though I had some success, I wanted a bit more control of my success.

Through a connection in Los Angeles I landed at Boxcar Creative in 2006.

Brian Fabian and I knew almost immediately we wanted to be business partners. His background in technology and my background is production provided a unique approach to marketing.

Today, we have an amazing studio filled with talented writers, developers and artists. AND, an equally fantastic group on clients whose brand-story we have the honor of telling. Whether it is a logo or website every tactic is informed by our unique “storytelling” approach to marketing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The death of FLASH was tough. But, we evolved and were able to grow in the long run.

We also had to “hid” our video and film production early on. It was hard for brands and larger agencies to believe you could be skilled at more than one discipline. Now, our partners love the fact that we are able to provide a more cost-effective solution because we have all of these capabilities in-house.

Please tell us about Boxcar Creative.
We are storytellers fueled with technology.

We are “known” for our digital and video content marketing.

We do not outsource, which is very unique. All development AND production is in-house.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We have produced three feature films “on the side”.

I would have celebrated this a bit more. This experience is a real asset and I was afraid it made our firm look distracted.
