Meet Jordan Schulte of Camera Chicks Photography in Amarillo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Schulte.

Jordan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Camera Chicks Photography when I was a freshman in high school. I took a freshman computer class with my best friend at the time and we just happened to get paired together for the class project. The project was to create a flyer and business card for either a made up business or an already established one. We decided to create ours for a made up business called Camera Chicks Photography since we both loved photography and competed in 4-H photography competitions. During that same semester, we began putting on “fun fake photoshoots” with our friends and landed our first “real gig” taking senior pictures for one of those friends. One thing led to another and before we knew it, we had families and friends from our small town paying us to take their portraits. My sophomore year of high school, we got asked to shoot our first ever wedding. As the years went on, we continued to grow our little business. Once we graduated, we went our separate ways, but I continued to grow Camera Chicks Photography throughout my college career.

I have now been professionally taking pictures for eight years and have shot over 75 weddings all over the United States. Over the years, I have built a team of five professional photographers and videographers who assist me in my wedding photography and videography each weekend. I am 100% self-taught and owe all of my success to my parents and the people within our little community who believed in me encouraged me and trusted me to capture their special moments.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely been a bumpy ride. I have learned through trial and error along with youtube videos (who would have thought, LOL). When I look back at some of the first sessions I ever did, I cringe and think to my self “Why in the world did these people ever pay me to take their pictures!” I am eternally grateful for my amazing clients and friends who chose me to capture their images back in the day even though I was far from the best and still learning. Without them, I would never have gotten where I am today.

I have also learned the importance of perseverance and continuing my education. I very easily could have thrown in the towel those early years when I was not consistently pleased with the product I was creating or became content when I finally felt like I was settling into my niche. Instead, I chose to spend time every month researching new ideas and learning new tricks to always make my images better. There will always be someone out there who is better than me and I love that because it means that I will never be finished learning, growing, and striving to be the best.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Camera Chicks Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a photography and videography business combined. We offer photography for families, seniors, weddings, engagements, bridals, and special events. While we do a variety of sessions throughout the year, we are most known for our wedding photography and videography. I know how expensive a wedding can get so we strive to offer competitive pricing and are always willing to work with every bride’s budget!

We also are beginning to offer to mentor for photographers who are just getting started. This is a new service that is still in the works, but it is something that I am extremely excited about and proud of. I know what it is like to start from nothing and my goal is to help other aspiring photographers be able to reach their full potential. I am currently finishing up developing the content and outline, but be on the lookout for the launch of the Camera Chicks Photography Boss Babes program.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, I don’t think luck has had much of anything to do with it. I fully attribute my success to hard work and a strong support system. During wedding season I work well over 60 hours a week every single week. I work probably over 80% of the weekends in a full calendar year. Just about every Saturday March-October, I am shooting a wedding and on Sunday’s, I shoot engagements and families. My poor fiancé has to tag along and be my second shooter some weekends if he wants to see me. My hard work and dedication is how I run a successful business.
