Meet Patrick Hamilton of Gideon Crow Music in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Hamilton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Patrick. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was given a guitar six years ago and began writing songs. Songs about my life, the road (I’m a bit of a traveler), the interesting folks that I meet sometimes, odd jobs I’ve worked and things like that. It started just that simple and has since become my entire world. I now write songs almost constantly, I have a band and book shows all over the place. I’ll still play just about anywhere if given the chance though, I’ve played festivals, theaters, bars, backyards and living rooms, cafes, markets, and street corners all over the country. One of my favorite spots to wrangle is any place that’s never hosted a performer before, I enjoy being the 1st person to play those, showing everyone a good time and opening up that door for someone else in the future perhaps.

Has it been a smooth road?
Well, you’ve gotta take the good with the bad sometimes, but in the end, I’d say that it’s all worth it. I’ve busted guitars, gotten sick, had a gig cancel on me once or twice because of the weather. But, there’s nothing else that I imagine I’d rather be doing.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I love writing, it helps me work through so many things personally. But it’s not all about me either, I enjoy learning new things, meeting new people, and I write all of that stuff into my songs too. Recently (this year), Gideon Crow Music has begun to evolve and grow into something so much more than just me writing some songs. I’m documenting everything I can in a different way than you might’ve seen or heard before. Pictures, videos, all in hopes to lend exposure to other cultures and music. Traveling by plane, train, bus, and hitchhiking all over the place to meet people, see things that I’ve never seen, and really explore the process that goes into the songs that I keep writing. I think the latest development that I’m most proud of is the band. I never really thought about playing with a band, and then it just came together on its own, a group of these, way more talented than me, musicians who all love the songs. That sort of thing will happen in Denton, but I never thought about it happening to me. Everyone in the band is so unique also, it just amazes me sometimes how well we all work together to bring to life new dimensions of these simple little rhymes that I write. I love those guys so much.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I’ve gotten to see an awful lot of places, but Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denton’s music scenes are like no other, and this will always remain Home. There’s a great mix of artists in the Golden Triangle area, and all sorts of venues and places really open to supporting new performers.
