Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Cazares.
Marissa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m 25 years old and I am born and raised in Texas. I fell in love with everything beauty in middle school and I just knew I wanted to be a cosmetologist. After graduating high school, I went straight to beauty school, I attended Ogle beauty school where I learned all the basics. I graduated beauty school on June 2o12, but the biggest blessing happened and I found out I was pregnant and had my daughter November 2012. Financially, getting into the hair industry at the time was not an option, so I worked retail for a bit. May 2014, I received an opportunity to become an assistant to a Salon Owner, Cynthia Valdez who created Blush at bishop arts, she believed in me when I didn’t quite believe in my self. After assisting her for about 4-6 months, I began taking my own clients behind the chair. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to be able to juggle raising my daughter and building a clientele. I am going on five years at Blush in May and it’s one of my biggest accomplishments. Social media has really helped me build Blushedbymarissa, I’m extremely grateful for the support of Cynthia and my family. I can go on and on about myself and my career, but I will let you all come visit me behind the chair at Blush at Bishop Arts. Thank you!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road up until three years ago when I started retaining clients. Building your clientele is always the toughest and that’s where I struggled in the beginning. I promise you, if you just put your business and work out there, they will come!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BlushedByMarissa – what should we know?
Blushedbymarissa came from working at Blush at Bishop Arts. I wanted to keep similar branding so that clients will know I work at Blush! I specialize in Balayage, color corrections, haircuts, and all things color. I’m known for creating dimensional balayage looks that clients love because they are low maintenance. What sets me apart from others would have to be my hard work. My drive to be better than I was yesterday. When supporting my family means everything to me, I have to give my work 100% to provide for the ones I love. Hard work and dedication pays off!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
It all comes back to my passion for hair, I love it, there’s not a day that I dread going into work. I’m dedicated to my craft and I will not allow anyone to get in the way.
