Meet Markeye Bonner of Mikells Florist in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Markeye Bonner.

Markeye, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my floral career in 2007, When an opportunity to work alongside my aunt at her flower shop, “Flowers By Andrea”, presented itself. During my time there, I learned the ins and outs of the floral business by observing my Aunt’s talents, learning different flower names and the way textures & design create new looks. Since I always had a design eye, it became one of my greatest passions in life. With all the proper training, self-preservation and dedication, I received the knowledge of the floral business. I was ready to start and succeed in my own business. As a result, Mikells Florist was established in May of 2010 in Albany, Georgia.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been smooth, but I’ve learned that business is as hard as you want it to be. The only struggle is getting others to understand your craft and your preferences on branding. I’m extremely firm and particular when it comes to my branding. Since I want the best results, I want my brand represented in the best way because of the type of client I attract. I think most of the struggle is not coming off personable because my focus is usually perfection.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am known for high-quality floral designs. As a floral designer, I want to bring beautiful, vibrant, live textures & designs to your home. I’m known for being very particular when it comes to my floristry art & interior decor. So, don’t be alarmed if I ask a lot of questions. I want my designs to inspire my clients in ways that florist’s couldn’t in the past. My personality and inquisitiveness about life, patterns, culture, art and, etc.. keep me focused on providing excellent service. I’m most proud of the reviews from clients. I’m very confident in my skills, but my first priority is to serve consumers!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There’s obviously no starting over, but if I was offered the chance I would operate my business how I wanted from the beginning. I have asked other’s opinion on how I should strategize in the past. I’ve received great tips and all, but my vision for my brand is the only option. It’s the only way I feel pressure to succeed. No one else can coach you on your passion.
