Meet Cale Pruit of Tesoro Baking Co. in Lakewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cale Pruit.

Cale, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Dallas and Rockwall, so I love being a part of a community I have known all my life. After graduating from the University of Colorado, I taught history and coached middle school. Because of my passion for baking, I switched careers and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in Baking and Pastry. I also had the opportunity to work at Village Baking Company and loved every bit of it. I chose to be a stay-at-home mom when my daughter was born, but have been able to continue pursuing my baking career from my home kitchen.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest challenge has been timing. After baking for 13 years, I finally found my specialty right when I was starting a family. Decorating cookies became my creative outlet, but it also needed to stay second priority to my role as a new mom. It took many late nights of practice and many tears over cookies that didn’t turn out as planned to get to where I am today.

Tesoro Baking Co. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Tesoro Baking Co. operates from home under the Texas Cottage Law and our primary focus is decorated iced cookies. This specialty includes everything I love about baking – precision, patience, and creativity. I am thankful that I can provide a high-quality product to my customers for their special events. I love the opportunity to be a part of celebrating others.

What sets me apart from others is my education background. I am so thankful I can apply my experience as a teacher in the classroom to the kitchen. I teach a variety of classes for both children and adults, and they are a blast!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments happen when my kids are in the kitchen with me. Their eyes light up when they learn something new and they love to be involved. I am thankful they get to see and experience what it is like to run a business. Their joyfulness about my career means the world to me.
