Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Porter.
Ciara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved birthday parties, so when I had my son it was no different. Pinterest inspired me to purchase a die cutting machine and I became obsessed with the DIY capabilities I had just unlocked. I started to think I should make a business out of this! A couple of months went by and I had no orders or clientele, for that matter. Until March 2017, my sweet friend Brittany Reese took a chance on me and allowed me to make shirts for her daughter’s birthday party and the feedback was amazing! Crafty C hasn’t looked back since!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey hasn’t been easy nor will it ever be. I had times where I wanted to quit or give up because honestly working full-time, going to school full-time, running a business full-time and being a mother is HARD. However, continuously pushing through makes me appreciate my accomplishments and every finished order so much more. I value hard work and effort and I want my little one too, as well. So, the only advice I have for anyone wanting to start something of their own is: KEEP GOING. KEEP TRYING. KEEP PUSHING.
What should we know about Crafty C? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Crafty C specializes in custom designed apparel, party décor and much more. I think what sets my business apart from others is my willingness to go above and beyond. There’s not a craft I’m not willing to try and I enjoy a challenge. I’ve had customers who are asking for something I’ve never created before and they’ll be like “I believe in you, I trust you to do it!” That means the absolute world to me. I aim to deliver.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Like I mentioned previously, KEEP GOING. Just never give up, There’s going to be days you don’t know how you’re going to continue on, but continue. Keep an open mind and an open heart, always remember you are exactly where you need to be at all times.
