Meet Samantha Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Ramirez.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
As an only child, I would spend hours keeping myself company by drawing. After my mother saw that I had a natural talent, she enrolled me in private art lessons. I learned basic techniques and continued to develop my skills throughout high school and college. Life threw many obstacles that kept me from painting or creating for years at a time. Art often served as my only refuge, my only outlet, and was sometimes, like when I was a child, my only company. I have since had the opportunity to be involved in many different public projects and private commissions. While art had been a youthful passion, I have since discovered that I also have a passion for helping people. What better way to satisfy both passions than by using my art to help people? This has been my major focus for the last several years now.

Please tell us about your art.
I believe that art should move you, touch you, reach you, teach you, inspire you, or invoke an emotion or thought process. It should be more than just something pretty on the wall… it should speak to you. Most of my art is inspired by the clients that I work with. My commissions stem from the imagination of my clients. What is created is my representation of the images they cannot produce for themselves. The materials and themes are specific to each piece because each privately commissioned piece is uniquely designed for the individual client. This is why my art is so diverse and assembled using different mediums and depicting different subjects. Some of my pieces are loved and cherished by my clients for the rest of their lives. Other pieces only represent a season or fleeting obsession held by the client for just a moment.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I believe that success as an artist is different for everyone. For some, it may be gaining recognition, or fame, or wealth. For others, it could be simply to have the opportunity to be creative. My success is defined piece by piece. Each client that has the satisfaction of finally seeing their vision become a reality is a success. Every shop piece that I sell to a client who saw it felt it and loved it is a success. And, for the proceeds of those sales to go toward helping others, that is the greatest success of all.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Since most of my work consists of privately-owned commissions, the best place to see it is on Facebook at www.facebook.com/S.A.artistries. S.A. Artistries started out as an artist’s page where I could display and sell my work. Over the years it has evolved from an artist’s page to include my community improvements projects and went from S.A. Artistries to S.A. Artistries: The Art of Making a Difference. My main focus is no longer just art, but also in organizing projects to help those in need. Here you can see my commissions and also get a look at what I’ve been working on in the shop. This is also where you can learn more about the community improvement projects I organize or send me a message to commission your own unique piece. You can visit my online shop at www.etsy.com/shop/SAArtistries or just hit the “shop now” button on my Facebook page to browse through what I have for sale. A portion of all sales, be it privately commissioned or from my shop, go toward the different projects I organize.
