Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Granados.
Jose, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Mexico City, moved to Atlanta, GA when I was a kid and when I turned 22, I moved to Dallas, TX. I landed a job as a bartender in downtown. I had the opportunity of meeting so many different DJs and artists through my bar and the area, even some of the best DJs would perform at my bar. I always had a passion for music – when I lived in Atlanta, my younger brother and I tried to pursue a rapping career together. We even had a recording studio in our closet! I bet the tracks are still out there if you look hard enough. However, life happened and we never got to see that dream come true. About two years ago, I really started to get my hunger back for the industry. I was always around DJs and learning how to spin. As a joke, I downloaded a digital DJ app on my phone and that’s literally where this journey started. My friends and co-workers would compliment my style and a month later, I bought my first controller. Within nine months, I had multiple residencies, was on the radio (shout out to my KNON family) and my wife and I started our own event company and I performed at several corporate and private events. Within the actual two years of my professional DJ career, I’ve been able to do things and meet people that I never thought I could. Currently, I still have multiple residencies in the DFW metroplex and our business is growing stronger than ever. My name DJ Juice started out as a joke of a nickname and has turned into my entire empire. #persistenceisthekeytosuccess
Has it been a smooth road?
I can definitely say this has not been a smooth road, but what I can say is that the benefits of the hustle have paid off. There were many struggles – being from another state, trying to purse in an industry where DJs have been in the game for over 20 years, trying to get booked knowing how saturated the city is with good DJs, and leaving my full-time job to pursue my dream was one of the hardest bridges to cross. I have a family to feed and bills to pay but I worked relentlessly to get where I am today. It was hard work to gain respect from older DJs, but I kept my head down and took every opportunity that was given. Sometimes, there weren’t even opportunities, I just had to create them as I went.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am most proud of the empire I have created with my wife. TAG Edge Events and Entertainment is actually our company name. MusikbyJuice is my side of the company where I get to thrive. My wife is an event designer in the DFW metroplex and we work together in all aspects. I’m constantly looking out for new events and she’s constantly looking for places that need music and Entertainment. We specialize in a lot! She handles our corporate side and the footwork my residencies and I handle private/personal events. There is no client we say no to and anytime, we can show our face in a club or bar we do. There’s no job too big or too small for what we do. We are known for always creating a good time, no matter the atmosphere!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Most definitely, Dallas is the place to be! This place has so many upcoming businesses that entertainment is needed everywhere. To anyone out there that’s starting from the ground up, find comfort in knowing that you can make it. Dallas provides so many opportunities for our industry and the possibilities are endless.
