Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Brown.
Christopher, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved the idea of the stories that hide within each photo. There is so much beauty I see in the world, so photography gives people the opportunity to see exactly what I see on a day to day basis. I started with a Canon Rebel SL1 in June of 2016 and now shoot with a Sony A7ii. I would literally go roam Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and random states taking photos of anyone who would let me. Eventually, I met great photographers along the way like Morris Peace and Jeff Tingz that taught me about lighting, angles, buying new lens to get the highest quality photos, and finding out what I truly can do with the camera.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been easy by no means. I stopped working a desk job for a year and a few months because I felt I missed so many opportunities due to work. Within that year I lost my car because photoshoots stopped coming in as frequent and other business adventures came to a halt. 2018 was an all-time low for me but my peace was photography. No matter how bad life got, I could always pick up my camera and get lost.
Awkward Shots Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Awkward Shots Photography focuses on more than just taking photos. The experience you get is why people book their shoots. Doing a photoshoot is creating a long term bond. We capture the moments that many don’t see; the candids of laughter, deep in thought, love and much more. Something I challenge myself with on a daily is to constantly show the unknown. I’ve done weddings, fashion shows, and individuals modeling. When I do a photoshoot, I actually talk to the models and find out who they truly are. The more you understand someone, the better shots will be. I don’t put a time on that creative process and those factors are what separates me from others.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is something that I am still trying to define. Money doesn’t make you successful in my eyes when it comes to anything artistic like photography, music, clothes, etc.. If my photos can inspire someone to start this photography journey that would be something special, but the day when my photos hit a billboard and people can say, “Hey that is Chris’s work” I will feel success.
