Meet Allie Thomas of Allie Marie Photography in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Thomas.

Allie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
One of my earliest memories is looking through photo albums with my grandma. The idea of being able to, even just for a second, travel back to a different time in your life, has always been something that captivates me. Simply, I am a sucker for nostalgia! Art has always been such a big part of my life. I have dabbled in pretty much every form of art; Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, Makeup, you name it… I’ve probably partook at some point in my life. My grandpa is an artist & started his own, successful, sign business in the 80’s.. that began with him hand painting different kinds of signage for all sorts of clients. So, I was pretty much raised in an artistic culture.

I walked down so many different artistic paths to finally realize that photography was every form of art that I love all wrapped up into one. I only recently took the step in pursuing becoming a full-time photographer and in this short time, it has been nothing less than an overwhelmingly humbling & exhilarating experience. I am beyond excited every single day that I get to interact with people I would have never met or talked to otherwise; the process of planning & executing a photo shoot, the post-production process & more than anything.. delivering a finalized gallery to a client & getting to hear how happy & thankful they are that I captured them and THEIR memories!

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, things have actually been smooth sailing for me. If anything, one of my biggest struggles comes from my mentality. I get pretty anxious about 15 minutes leading up to a photo shoot as well as right after I deliver a gallery. With time, I have definitely gotten better & I am slowly becoming more & more confident within myself & my craft. The support I get from my amazing husband and the reassurance from friends & family has doubtlessly been a huge contributor to that confidence as well as the feedback from my clients. Someone told me that having that anxiety is a good thing because it means that I sincerely care.. & I have taken that so much to heart that now, I hope that the anxiety & adrenaline rush never go away; I hope I never get too comfortable! I want to always been challenged & struggle, to a certain extent, because that is exactly how I will learn to grow & be the best Photographer I can be for my clients & also for myself personally.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Allie Marie Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Allie Marie Photography is me. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I specialize in anything specific at the moment, especially since I am still trying to figure that out myself. I just love taking pictures.. as simple as that is. I really enjoy participating in styled shoots. I have a passion for turning an idea into something tangible. I am known by my family, friends as well as clients as being approachable, easy going & intensely devoted to every aspect of the creative process. As for what I am most proud of. I would say that I am most proud of staying true to myself & my style.. & this sort of leads into the next question is what sets me apart from others. My editing style is something that may not be as sought after as others.

I pride myself in remaining outside of the box; the more moody & dark tones speak to my soul. I also pride myself in being as responsive as possible, providing the best customer service to all of my clients but also remembering the fact that is… we are all humans. Based on my experience, the corporate button up narrative is false one… I am pretty far from conservative… I want my clients to be themselves & enjoy the experience as much as I do & I can’t expect them to feel comfortable in being themselves if I am not doing the same. My goal is for them to feel like they are out with an old friend just capturing moments & making some magic!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Ask any photographer and they will tell you that the market is over saturated… I have even heard people say that the need for professional photographers will eventually die out but I honestly could not disagree more! Yes, with today’s technology and the cameras in cell phones forever getting better and better with each new model that is released, but there is so much more to photography than just snapping a photo and throwing a filter on it. Photography is an art… & art will never die. I honestly cannot say where the industry is heading even in the next year let alone the next 5-10… but what I can say is that I am excited to be a part of it. I can’t wait to see how far technology advances in my lifetime and to also get to see what trends and changes happen. It really is extremely exciting to get to witness.
