Today we’d like to introduce you to Bone1 The ARTIST.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My art was born through the world of Graffiti. The urge to write on things, to create, I fell in love with that process. A year after I started tagging my name “BONE1” I got arrested. Haha. Through probation, I connected with the Big Thought company in Dallas. There I picked up a brush & learned how to transfer my energy into my art. In 2012 I got accepted to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I was homeless for one semester. Still got the highest grade in my class. It got too expensive to live in the city, so I dropped out and came home to Texas. Thirteen years later, im still painting and doing what I love. Fulltime. It’s all energy. Everything is energy. I’m so grateful and humbled to be able to express myself in the art realm.
Please tell us about your art.
My art, my art is like burlesque. It’s a tease… I want to show the techniques, discipline and the elegance of the brush strokes or spraypaint, whatever I am using at the moment. I use acrylics, latex, oils, airbrush, charcoal, and my favorite to use….spraypaint! I want to create large works of art. Murals that are about self-awareness and social awareness. Something that can tug at your heart. Make you feel an emotion. Make you feel comfortable or uncomfortable. Make you happy or sad. As long as my art can shake or move someone’s energy, I believe that im doing my purpose in the universe.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I think its the same thing forever. Artists have the privilege of seeing the world from different angles and perspectives that most people can’t see. I think it’s important that as an artist on any level, we have a job to do. We are a necessity in the world. In our states, in our countries, and in the universe. Im first generation Mexican American so I try to understand both cultures. It’s not easy given what is going on now in the U.S.
I push against the grain, naturally, thats just who I am. I love a challenge.
My favorite artist is Goya. He definitely had an impact not only in his community but in the culture. That’s what I want to do, impact the culture!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
