

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Preston.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Jess’ Sweet Tooth started simply as an idea. As a little girl, I’ve always enjoyed baking anything from scratch, whether it be pies, cakes or simple brownies just to see what it would taste like. Then if I made treats for a family gathering, I’d sit back and watch others eat, gathering feedback; then try something new again; it was therapeutic. However, it wasn’t until the summer of 2016 that I decided to take baking serious, pursuing something on a larger scale. I took my idea to Tiffany Freeman with Diva University where I sat through an entrepreneurship course of how to begin and gather those basic essentials regarding entrepreneurship as a mobile vendor. From there, I was able to attend my 1st vendor event where God showed favor on this “idea”. What began as a simple Cream Cheese Pound Cake (Jess’ Classic) a variety of flavors from there were developed. Since 2016 Jess’ Sweet Tooth vendors and supplies from scratch pound cakes in East Texas and throughout the DFW Metroplex.
Has it been a smooth road?
Jess’ Sweet Tooth has truly been an uphill climb since beginning in 2016. One of the main challenges I’ve faced as an entrepreneur is transforming this idea of “can I actually do this” into “I’m actually doing this… you gotta take this serious; adding grit to this idea” so, what do we do now? I know my cakes are more than worth it, how can I develop a successful business plan based on integrity & tell others “it’s good, come buy” 😜
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Jess’ Sweet Tooth story. Tell us more about the business.
Jess’ Sweet Tooth is a mobile cakery specializing in a variety flavor of Pound Cakes made solely from scratch; real Butter, Cream, Sugar and etc. Each pound cake is specially prepared with love, care and patience and hand-delivered to each customer in that same manner. When a customer receives their from scratch pound cake and sees Jess’ Sweet Tooth’s name with that red heart attached to their cake box, my goal is to create an experience for them, taking their minds back to granny’s house during the hot summers in Texas. Upon entering the house, they’re welcomed with the sweet smell of sugar and butter waiting to be devoured. It is my desire for customers to experience the warm and gentle greeting and thank you for choosing Jess’ Sweet Tooth from beginning to end. What sets Jess’ Sweet Tooth apart from others is my love for the cakes being transferred with each transaction. It’s not just about gaining another customer equaling another dollar, it’s me baking a cake for my family and watching them eat it with delight.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see Jess’ Sweet Tooth in a store front based in several cities within the US, starting in Texas. The biggest shift is for Jess’ Sweet Tooth to begin shipping between the states where those who aren’t able to get to a from scratch sweet treat in person, will still be able to enjoy that experience.
