Meet Crystal Boyd of Youniquely Crystal in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Boyd.

Crystal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a nurse, author, spoken word artist, and community activist. I got started when I published Written With A Bleeding pen 10/28/18 in memory of my granny. The book is an inspirational journey of healing told through poetry. Through publishing the book, I healed a lot of pain I carried for years and encouraged others to do the same. I began to be asked to perform pieces from the book which started my career as a spoken word artist. I now use my platform to encourage others and shed light on issues underprivileged communities, teens, victims of abuse have to cope with everyday. I’m also starting a nonprofit T.H.E.M Transforming, healing, empowering and motivating youth through creative expression and fine arts partnered with Generation Uplift this summer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road was bumpy but like hayride with my friends bumpy. I had to learn to perform because I had never been on stage prior to 12/19; however, I enjoyed every bump. It has also gotten to the point I’m just extremely busy with shows and events, so learning balance was a task. I thoroughly enjoy the bumps and butterflies on this road though.

Please tell us about Youniquely Crystal.
Youniquely Crystal is all about empowering people to be who they are. What sets me apart is I stay true to who I am, rather it’s wearing a formal dress and sneakers because I hate heels or singing off tune lines in a poem. I don’t have the poet voice lol I just speak from the heart. I pray that God uses my words to heal people. Not just entertain but enlighten as well. I realized you can do both at the same time it has been amazing. I’m most proud of my Black Girls Rock event the ability to perform and uplift those women was amazing. Traveling to Houston was fun plus it was my birthday. That moment I truly realized my purpose the gift God blessed me with. Plus I met so many awesome people.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Well, I don’t believe in luck. I believe your steps are ordered and for those that realize their purpose, come to understand. That bad things happened to prepare you for the good. If the bad things some may bad luck hadn’t happen, I wouldn’t have been able to birth Written With A Bleeding Pen. I wouldn’t be on these stages inspiring the people trapped in bad luck circumstances that it does get better. That they are awesome in spite of those circumstances. #BeYoutiful Be you to the fullest.
