Meet Trailblazer Candace Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Carter.

Candace, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Beyond The Kizz was started in December 2017. We were celebrating my Grandmother’s 80th birthday and wanted to make it a memorable event. I customized wine glasses for her and her guest and they were a hit. That is the event that would launch the beginning of Beyond The Kizz. From there I began customizing and personalizing other items such as: Cutting Boards, Christmas Ornaments, T-Shirts and so much more. The brand is continuing to grow and I will host my first Crafting Workshop in April 2019.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a fun and challenging journey. The internet has played a really big role in developing where I am today. It takes a lot of time and effort to research and continually develop the brand. One of my biggest struggles is joggling my everyday life. I have a full-time job and I am currently studying to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Another struggle is deciding when I should invest in new equipment to launch my brand further. Finding time to manage all of these things are extremely hard. Another struggle is getting the name and brand out to the public. I am not the best at marketing or even promoting my own business at times. My best piece of advice is don’t stand in your own way. I know my brand could really take off but I am so afraid of the unknown. I am afraid of the high customer demand because, as of now, I am a one woman’s show. I am also one that wants everything to be perfect but keep in mind when you walk into a restaurant the dining area is organized and nicely put together while normally the kitchen is in shambles. So, like Steve Harvey said: “JUMP” and take that leap of faith.

We’d love to hear more about Beyond The Kizz.
I customize and personalize items using vinyl. I customize drinkware, clothing items, Christmas Ornaments, household items, etc.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
The most important piece of advice is to go for it. Decide what it is you want to accomplish and just do it. Set small goals and take it one day at a time.
