So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to the DFW area from my hometown, Longview, Tx in February of 2011 to further my career in law enforcement and return to school. At the time, I was a mother of two girls and my priority was to provide for them which left little time for school or any other interests I may have had. I was satisfied with my career, taking classes here and there and slowly making progress towards a degree until I had another daughter in August of 2013. During my maternity leave, I knew that I would struggle leaving my newborn to return to work. I immediately started searching for “work from home” jobs and was surprised by the number of legitimate responses. Selling jewelry immediately grabbed my attention because the startup investment was low, and I loved to accessorize! Needless to say, I launched my first jewelry boutique through “Kitsylane” and named it Audacious. I quit my job in November of 2013 and earned income from working at home on my business and other small gigs to cover my expenses. After my youngest daughter turned 1, I returned to work in law enforcement but continued to sell jewelry. During the Spring of 2015, I unexpectedly came across another opportunity to be creative in selling jewelry and found it comforting that it offered a lifetime guarantee on all its products! I was also inspired by the support from a close-knit community of empowering and ambitious women, leading to the launch of my present boutique selling, Chloe and Isabel.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
While my journey has not been easy, I think it has been tolerable. My main struggles were maintaining adequate health insurance for my family and the lack of time/money to spend with my kids outside of the home. Whether trying to have a fun day out or encouraging them to participate in any extracurricular activities, the opportunity and funds were at a minimum or nonexistent. With prayer and determination, I worked additional “work from home” jobs to make sure I had enough to cover our basic expenses in the months my jewelry sales were low. Although I was a single parent household, my family and kids’ dad/ family were still present financially. As a proactive individual, that money was put aside for any emergency medical expense that may have occurred.
