Today we’d like to introduce you to Celeste Rickert.
Celeste, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Oh, how I have loved art since a child. Pretty sure I was born with a pencil in my hand! I remember receiving awards in elementary and then in junior high. You would have thought I’d take art in high school though 8th-grade art teacher made me so mad I refused to take art ever again. Fast forward almost seven years later, my junior year of college, I decided to give art another try. I had missed creativity in my life. I remember being the best in my class until life happened. I slacked one semester, and a certain professor failed me. I was shocked and furious. He told me I wasn’t good enough to do this for a living nor did I ask for his opinion for that matter! HA! Sure enough that summer session I had to take his class again. It was the first time I put my ego aside and became a sponge. I feel as an artist and being human, learning to accept and overcome constructive criticism is one of life’s most important lessons to learn. I needed to go through that to grow. So, I worked my tail off and proved myself. The end of the semester, my professor pulled me aside and said “Celeste, I don’t ever give anyone an A, but you earned it. And I was wrong; you are good enough to do this for a living.” It was at that moment that changed me forever. You must accept failure to grow. And from that day, I continue to listen, learn and grow through art and life.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
If you ask me what makes my art unique, I almost naturally hesitate every time. My work is very much a spiritual movement for me in which many may not understand. I pray I focus, I listen, and I create. I continually ask for divine guidance to work in and through me. So for me, putting a soul in my subjects is key. It’s what fuels my passion for this gift that God gave me. I use this talent to bring peace and love to others. Whether it’s through Jesus, an animal or a loved one who’s passed on. I truly love what I do. And when I say I pour my heart and soul into every piece, by golly, I pour my heart and soul into every piece. I started this journey 14 years ago, and I feel like I’m finally in my element. I’m proud to say that. When you truly know yourself and take all the knowledge, years and tears you’ve invested and applied it to this burning desire within you, there’s no limit to what you can do. Cheers to finding faith within your purpose and never stop growing!
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I believe success is when you truly are in love with what you do. It’s not about the awards you receive or how many followers or likes you can get. It’s knowing that your passion brings joy to others. And that’s what brings fulfillment.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
