Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan White.
Jordan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I aspire to inspire. Art has always been an outlet for me and a way to express how I felt since I was so shy growing up. Once I became a teenager, I became more interested in makeup, putting down colored pencils and paper and picking up a makeup brush and a lipstick. In 2014, I decided to enroll in cosmetology school to learn more about what was just hobby for me at the time. Soon after graduating and receiving my license, I began working in my field with Ulta cosmetics. I had two different positions there, one as a prestige beauty advisor and two as a Benefit cosmetics Arch Expert. I used my time there to learn more about different products and makeup artistry and perfecting my customer service skills. Once I felt I had grown as much as I could in that company, I decided to take a leap of faith and quit that job and work for myself. In the summer of 2017 and with the help of my business savvy mother, I launched my business Glamorous Girl LLC. I’ve grown and learned a lot on the business end since we started. My story is just beginning and I’m excited to see where life takes me and what opportunities God has for me. I know that what is for me will be for me.
Has it been a smooth road?
You can’t go throughout life and expect everything to go the way you planned. The first couple of months after I launched my business, everything was running smoothly. But as summer approached and events died down, things became slow for me and I definitely let it get to me. I’ve always struggled with anxiety and depression and at times, it stops me from doing the things I want or plan to do. My mind is constantly going and the what if’s are always playing in the back of my mind. I’ve learned how to work through depression as I’ve gotten older and as for anxiety I’ve learned to not overthink and obsess over things. I’ve learned to write down my short term goals so I can see them daily in plain sight which helps me stay accountable for the things I say I will do. Since I’m a business owner, I don’t have much time to feel sorry for myself and mope around because things won’t get done. I get excited when I have events coming up and that helps me stay focused on the bigger picture, my love for makeup. If I could tell my younger self or even young women wanting to step out on faith and follow their dreams, I’d say you are good enough and you can do it. We often times doubt ourselves even when those around us are cheering us on and we have to learn to adopt that “I need to win” mentality. The only thing stopping you is you. I’m my biggest fan and my biggest critic. I know that what makes me and my business unique is that it’s me and my ideas that are running the show. I can do what I want and make it as successful as I want as long as I work towards it daily.
We’d love to hear more about Glamorous Girl LLC.
Glamorous Girl LLC specializes in creating one of a kind makeup applications, brow waxing, lash extension, and hairstyling services that are collaborative with the client. I’ve done countless weddings, proms, runways, photo and video shoots, and many other special events. I do a lot of investigating prior to the service to provide guaranteed satisfaction. I also provide one on one makeup classes for beginners and makeup enthusiasts.
I’ve learned so much as a person and as women just by talking to my clients on a real level. Who doesn’t love a little girl talk and a makeover? I’m proud to say that I’ve never had an angry or unsatisfied customer.
There’s trendy makeup, there’s high fashion runway makeup, there’s the everyday business women makeup routine, and then there’s my style of makeup which I believe embodies all those elements into a wearable and glamorous way. My approach to the service and the final results always leave a smile on their face and a returning client.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Going to events, whether it is local or travels, have helped me build relationships with those who do the same things I do. Social media is literally free marketing. You can build a brand and image just by posting consistent and quality work. Also, it helps to volunteer your services in any way you can. I’ve done lots of work for exposure especially in the beginning when I was trying to make a name for myself.
