Today we’d like to introduce you to Neelu Kharbanda.
Neelu, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had always wanted to do something with kids, and my passion for art. I just wasn’t sure how to do it. Then in September of 2012, I decided to not think anymore and do something to move in the direction. I designed flyers for kids’ art classes, and distributed it around the neighborhood. I started my first class with 5 students. I was able to be home with my girls and work on my passion and hobby at the same time. It was a perfect balance for me!! After that, it was one step at a time. I kept adding classes and camps and workshops to make ART Z bigger and better every day. We have expanded our reach to do ladies nights, birthday parties, summer camps and so much more. My dream is to have ART Z spread its creativity by being the most colorful and unique studio in Texas and eventually Nationwide.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a fairly smooth road as I have had a great response from the community. I’m surrounded by art lovers and I am very grateful for that. Sometimes balancing family life with work life takes juggling, but I have some amazing folks at home so things were balanced!

ART Z is an Art Studio for kids and adults. We do individual and group classes. In our classes, we work with various media like acrylic paint, oil paint, water color, pen and ink, charcoal & clay. Kids learn drawing, sketching, shading, painting, mix media work and clay sculptures. We also do Art birthday parties, Ladies painting nights, Couples nights, Workshops, Summer camps and sponsor local school & community events. ART Z’s mission statement is “Freedom of Style”. Every individual has an artist within him/her. ART is an expression and cannot be controlled. ART Z simply teaches the use of tools and techniques, the students are encouraged to add their own touches to their pieces. That’s what makes every painting so unique. Creativity is encouraged when you are a part of the ART Z team. The birthday girl/boy too get to pick their own piece and discuss with the instructor before the party. The pieces are not picked by the studio, but by you. That is what makes us unique.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an outgoing person who loved meeting people and making friends. I was very close to my dad, and I owe him a lot for what and how I am today. I had a variety of interests, I loved art, theatre and singing. I was in my school track and field team, with 200m being my favorite.
