Meet Brittney McCullough of Dot’s Soulful Kitchen in South Dalllas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney McCullough.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well how I got started was my granny when I was little I would watch her cook and use to always ask her can I do it. She finally told me yes I told her but I don’t know what to do.

She said she’ll teach me I had a blast doing it she saw how great I was doing so she continued to let me cook things by myself but she was there when I needed her. We never used measuring spoons or cups I learned how to eye the ingredients that’s when I fell in love with cooking. I have been cooking since I was nine years old. I was in charge of making all family meals holiday meals etc. She would just be in the kitchen to tell me what ingredients… How I got to where I am today started when my granny said someone in the family should start a family business. So I told her that I would go to school for business that way I can open a restaurant and have a food business cause at the time I thought that’s what you had to do. I went to school faithfully then my granny got sick and passed away.

At that point I stopped going to school didn’t see the point of going anymore I was so hurt she wasn’t able to watch my work come to life but a few friends and family was like you should sell plates I was like yea I will but I didn’t self doubt was on me heavy but I came up out that my Facebook friend Name Ray Ray she has her own business she told me to stop waiting and go ahead and start. Every time I supported her, she mentioned it and then one day she gave me the info on how to get my DBA and so forth my cousin Gabby also encouraged me and my big sis Benisha and many others. I can’t name everyone and I finally stepped out on faith and made it happen and here I am now happy doing what I love the smiles and kind words and feedback from all my supporters is everything to me I absolutely love what I do.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly it started off as a smooth road. I was pushing out so many plates I was shocked I was like this is only my first week and I’m doing so great wow then a road block came, and it began to get hard for me to get what I needed to continue but the most high always made a way for me to get all I needed to sell and I’m so thankful and grateful for that. It was times I didn’t know how I was going to get what I needed and he made a way one week I had to sit it out because I didn’t have nothing to get what I needed because my bills got in the way and I used that week to spend extra time with my daughter rest pray plan and meditate that following Monday. God came through for me and I have been on go every since things have been doing great being a small black business owner the challenge for me was funding to keep my business going but that will get better with time. My support system is so awesome I love them so much they know who they are they always send me positive affirmations and support me in many ways I feel everyone should have people like that in their corner.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dot’s Soulful Kitchen – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I always knew I wanted a cooking business but couldn’t think of a name that would go good with my grandmother’s nickname then it finally hit me a few years ago went and got my DBA then Dot’s Soulful Kitchen came about… I cook daily home cooked meals I also provide family weekly meals cause I know the struggle first hand to work all day come home and have to cook a nice homemade meal because you don’t want to feed you and your family fast food everyday. If someone sold weekly home cooked meals when I worked in corporate America I would’ve been all on that I also do meal prep for those on a diet and want to eat healthier. I specialize in food as a whole I love everything about it I’m known for big portion flavorful plates my plates are full and the food is seasoned to perfection… I’m proud of the fact that for me to be a small business owner just now starting out. I’m doing great and all the honor and glory goes to God and my grandmother because without her I probably would’ve had to grow up and learn on my own how to cook stuff. What set me apart from other is the fact that I been cooking since the age of nine years old. I have been in the kitchen cooking meals for my family even cooking big holiday meals and all at nine years old and up. She taught me how to make all things from scratch and to always cook with good energy and love also I don’t cook bottom feeders such as pig, shrimp, lobster, etc.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to stay consistent and keep doing what I’m doing. And upgrade to owning some land that my building will be built on to run my business out of I want to have me and my daughter set up nice so if something ever happens to me. I have a legacy left behind for her to keep it going she won’t be left to struggle or have to pay any debts she will be set up real good and have a leg up and I plan on introducing my daughter sweets business real soon.

Pricing:
