Meet Britt Hamilton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Hamilton.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m an ordinary person with an extraordinary personality. I’m a little shy but dominating, meaning I love working behind the scenes and letting my work be my flesh, almost like me being center stage. I have never been the person who wanted to fit in with others, but I’m very popular lol because of my crafts! Being that I lived in different places, it was hard to adapt and adjust. So I found myself alone and creating. Whether it was drawing, writing, dancing, and music. I was always trying to perfect a craft(s). If anything I was my worst critic I never thought my work was good enough, until I perfect it. Being creative helps me express myself the best way I know how. Therefore, this journey hasn’t been easy, and I’m still learning, and my story has just begun.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a photographer & an abstract painter, and since they’re my vision through my eyes, I call it VOB which stands for Vision of B.Ham. I became interested in painting when I was about 13 y.o. I was curious how someone could turn 3/4 colors and use those same colors to turn them into 9/10 more colors. I believe portrait painting is amazing, but I always admired abstract more. I love how someone could look at an abstract piece and see something totally different than you that blew my mind! I would like to think my paintings are relaxing and can be used to bring light into a room or small space. When people see my paintings, I want them to feel calm and relaxed while drinking wine or listening to Al Jarreau or John Coltrane. I want them to feel and see how darkness can be brought to light. My photography, I’ve been doing since 2010. I practiced, practiced, and kept practicing at it until I learn how to work with natural light and studio lighting. But for me I wanted my photography to tell a story. I just didn’t want to take a photograph. So when I take photographs, I try to capture the story of that individual (s) and tell it with no words or sounds. Just actions and poses if that makes sense. I love to see the end results through both of my crafts.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Honestly, you have to step out of your comfort zone and network. Go to art shows, exhibits, painting with a twist, etc . Or asking friends and family if you can take shots of them. You have to practice and get yourself out to be heard, seen and known. Also, there are social media just for people just like us (artist)
