Conversations with the Inspiring Justine Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justine Hernandez.

Justine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Some people call me Monique, others Juss! My story has always revolved around fashion! But it wasn’t until I went to college where I soon realized my strong passion for fashion. I majored in fashion merchandising, I absolutely loved my classes from visual merchandising (which is what I also do now) to the aesthetics of a store! My second year of college is when I joined a fashion organization which would host fashion shows every semester and that’s when I got into modeling! But that doesn’t complete my story, my whole life everyone would ask me about my style, where I got my clothes from and how to wear certain pieces! That’s what gave me my idea to start a blog/channel which turned into my brand, JussLookInMyCloset! I really didn’t commit to it 100% until after college! Which is when I had more free time to collaborate with photographers and other bloggers! As I continued to write for my blog and make look books on my channel, not only did I want to tell people where to get clothes from but actually style them! So, that’s when I started styling my friends and soon enough, strangers started asking me! I love fashion so much it’s truly a way I express myself! And I love helping others feel confident too!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not! It’s been a crazy rollercoaster! Especially, when I first started off I didn’t know how to balance school, work, and blogging! It was a struggle! But I tried to manage as much as I could without getting stressed, and when I did/do feel a little stressed, I always take a couple of steps back and revisit why I started to style, model or blog in the first place! It’s what makes me happy so my brand shouldn’t ever feel like “work” and when it ever does to start to feel like it! You need to take a break! And that is okay! So, my advice to you is to enjoy what you do, have fun this is not a competition!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I like to think of myself as a couple of things, YouTuber/blogger, model, and stylist! I absolutely love creating content that is related to fashion, beauty, and lifestyle! Currently, on my channel, I create lookbooks towards different styles and how to wear certain pieces, mixing and matching trends! And creating full daring looks! I love to be outside of the box with my style and love that I can bring diverse content to my followers, catering towards all styles! From girly chic to streetwear! Along with my fashion content, I love that I can be myself and spread positive energy in my content! Whether it be sharing some of my favorite positive quotes or talking about issues that women in their 20s go through life is not perfect and you’re not alone! I want to be someone others can relate to!

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
When it comes to women that inspire me in my life I think of two people. One is my mother, I know how cliché but truly my mother inspires me to be a better person every day. Her strength and her unconditional love are what inspires me to believe in my dreams. She is my number one supporter! The woman I drive to be every day, her inner beauty to love people and her strength to handle obstacles that are thrown at her is why I am the person I am today, and I just want to make her proud in everything I do!

Another woman is Aleali May, one of the most creative stylist! Who did start off as a blogger/model if you want to label it like that! She’s inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and start being daring with my outfits! She changed the game for women in the sneaker industry, pushing through many barriers to reach to her highest potential, she was the first woman to collaborate with Air Jordan! My love to pair everything with sneakers came from her unique style!! She is one dope stylist that I admire so much! She inspires me that you don’t have to be a girly girl to be in vogue!
