Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Alcaraz.
Amanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It wasn’t until 2016 when my youngest daughter asked for flamingo cookies and I figured I could make that! But boy, was I wrong. Little did I know how much time and effort went into making those types of cookies. After that, I researched and watched every YouTube and Instagram video I could find. Went through tons of trial and error. Then finally in the summer of 2017, I had it down enough to make her Narwhal cookies that she requested. Once I posted pictures to my social media, I began receiving orders for cookies from family and friends and by word of mouth. My business took off from there.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have always been a firm believer that nothing worth having in life ever comes easy. In the beginning, I struggled with the icing consistency so much so that I almost gave up.
Then I struggled with balancing my time. I am a mother of 3 and between making sure that their needs are met and keeping up with the house and making cookies, I was running on very little energy. I was team No sleep for the first good year of my business. Up until 4 am most nights. I don’t think most people understand exactly how much time and effort actually go into making these beautiful cookies.
Another struggle I had for a while was just being confident. Confident in my work and my prices. It is so easy in this day and age to go online and see all the beautiful works of art in the cookie world and get caught up comparing yourself to others and wonder why your work is not up to par. But in the end, we really are our own worst critics.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Yellow Rose Cookie Co. story. Tell us more about the business.
My business name is The Yellow Rose Cookie Co. I chose my business name to honor my late grandma. I lost her at a very young age that I feel I missed out on growing up cooking and baking with her in the kitchen. Her favorite flower was the yellow rose so I decided my name would be just that to honor her.
The Yellow Rose Cookie Co. specializes in custom decorated sugar cookies for any and all occasions. Pretty much if you can dream it, I can bring it to life through cookies.
What sets me apart from other bakeries is my attention to detail and the fact that my cookies also taste just as amazing as they look!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been very lucky in a sense, I guess. I have been very fortunate that I have my husband and family that support my dreams and aspirations. I am fortunate that I have customers who not only pay for my products but love them just as much. And I am very fortunate to do what I love each and every day.
