Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Allen.
Thomas, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been passionate about sports, fitness, and working with kids. To be able to work in an industry where I could combine the three is very rewarding, to say the least. During the summer of 2010, my step brother Trent wanted to prepare for the upcoming 8th grade football season. At the time, he essentially didn’t know anything about the game. To make a long story short, we trained, he made the team and had a hell of a season. During that time, some of his friends and teammates would join in on some of our sessions. Later that year, I had a parent suggest that many others would want to join and wanted to pay for the training. Before I committed, I spoke to my mom about it. Reflected on it. Then went for it all. Slowly but surely, I started to put the pieces together.
A year later, I would make a move that would expedite the customer acquisition process. I was sitting in Top Ends barbershop in Frisco. One of the barbers suggested that I should seek after one of the nation’s top football players who happened to be a Frisco athlete. Jay Ajayi, All-American, All-State, monster of a football player. Maybe a week later, I’m at the gym and I see a kid who looked like a star athlete at the highest degree. I knew it had to be him. With no idea of what Jay looked like, I walked up to him and said: “You must be Jay Ajayi”. The rest is history. Eight years later, we’re still at it. Jay has been nothing short of a pioneer in the development of EPT.
Between the time that I started the business and meeting, Jay, I was incredibly aggressive in building a clientele base. I took a guerrilla marketing approach and did a lot of things that a lot of people wouldn’t have done. If I wanted this thing to work, I had to get out of my comfort zone. It’s an everyday, full-time, job. I treated and still do treat it as such.
The journey has been one of a kind. I have met so many amazing people along the way. Some, who now are EPT coaches. I have been blessed to have been able to work alongside of some of the best people that you could meet.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely was not a smooth road. When starting and running a business in any industry, obstacles will be prevalent. It’s all about embracing the journey, learning from those obstacles, and applying what you learned.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
At EPT, we give athletes the most appropriate strength and conditioning experience for their age and talent level. Our programs equip athletes with what they need no matter the sport. Our coaches utilize training methods backed by proven scientific research to create elite, all-encompassing performance training programs.
The manner in which we employ our three pillars of Performance, Mentality and Injury Prevention through sound methodology is what sets us apart. Performance enhancement comes through training and educating athletes on the why and how to properly and safely execute exercises and movements that are designed to have maximum carry-over into the field of play. Mentality involves instilling confidence, building leadership qualities, and gaining the ability to approach new challenges and obstacles with an elite can-do attitude. Finally, Injury Prevention is key to the continued growth and success for all of athletes and is incorporated into each training session, based on age and sport.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Most definitely! I believe the state of Texas is driven by sports to a degree. I started the company in Frisco which has been recognized as the number 1 city in the nation to raise an athlete.
