Meet Trailblazer Angela Reyes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Reyes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Angela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Where do I begin? The thought of running my own business started back in 2010 when I was given a great opportunity to become a licensed cosmetologist in high school. Life happened as it does to the best of us and I never had the chance to actually pursue that dream. Despite the bumpy road I’ve had throughout my childhood, I was never a quitter. My journey continued one night while being up on the internet, checking out different beauty schools. I ended up signing up for a tour at OGLE in Hurst, I knew what I wanted to do… just didn’t know if I was ready for the commitment. I had just had my third child and I knew it would be a sacrifice to leave my kids to pursue this dream of mine. When I started my first day, an instructor mentioned how the lash industry is blooming and not many women had the patience for it. That’s when I knew exactly what I wanted to keep my main focus on. March 2018, I was certified in individual lash extensions. I took on clients as early as 5 am in the morning to as late as 1 in the morning. I was determined to build my clientele and be somebody I never thought I could be. My business grew, I was booked before the next month was even available on my booking site. I started from the bottom and truly worked my way up, with hard work and dedication. It didn’t happen overnight, it happened in 8 years, but I made it happen.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As much as my business on Instagram looks like I made it easy, it truly wasn’t. I was a pregnant teen, to begin with. That is why I didn’t pursue my dream from the moment I wrote it down as a goal. I finished high school thinking I wanted to pursue being a juvenile probation officer. I enrolled in college, cheating my time out. Since I was a single mom during that time, I felt like I couldn’t fail and do something in life… I didn’t go that route after receiving my associate’s degree because the interest in spending time away from my daughter didn’t interest me much longer. Fast forward to 2014, my husband encouraged me to always do what I felt made me happy. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to enroll back in school while growing my family, on top of working a full-time job. I didn’t make it happen all alone, WE made it happen. My day started at 6 am to coming home to everyone sound asleep by 11 pm. Work, school, go to sleep. I lost count how many times I let the tears roll down on how much I felt I was missing out with my family. By the time my graduation date finally came around, I was amazed at my own self. I finally did it. Through struggles and pain, but it was all worth it. Friendships are lost and friendships are created, it’s always going to feel like a never-ending competition when there’s more than just one of you doing the same thing. You have to always keep in mind that there are enough clients for everyone, and if we share just a little bit of knowledge of how we overcame to our own trials and errors, there’s an opportunity to always learn something new.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about GlowbyAngela studio – what should we know?
I specialize more in dramatic individual lash extensions. If I can say what I’m known for, it would be the “fluff effect.” My goal is to have lashes feeling as lightweight, and healthy for the lashes, but still noticeable enough to be shown off. The difference lash extensions truly make, is indescribable. Without mine, my confidence level isn’t where it would be when I have them on. It’s a game changer for a woman for sure. What sets me apart from others is that clients who are adjusted to wearing lash strips know they can come to GlowbyAngela Studio, to receive their lashes in the same form, except these are ready every morning saving you the time to not worry about lash strips.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
There are many challenges and opportunities for women to come across every day. The way to overcome them is to work hard for it. Nothing is happened by luck, but the amount of determination you have to make it happen for yourself. The only challenge is yourself, the opportunity is the work you put into your goal to end up successful
