Meet Grace and Sherrie Lee-Dennis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace and Sherrie Lee-Dennis.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Designs by GG was established in 2008. My (Grace Dennis) son was getting married and asked me to make is favorite red velvet cake for his groom’s cake. Little did I know that he wanted it in the shape of an electric guitar. After trial and error, along with many hours of observing Cake Boss and Duff, the Ace of Cakes on the Food Channel, I made the prototype for his birthday. This became a passion. My creative side blossomed. I decided to follow it as a hobby and took Wilton classes. This lead to me becoming a Wilton Certified Instructor. Yet life had its moments, I continued working in the corporate world for the next ten years. Through this time, I was still baking and creating edible works of art as a passion. Then in 2017, I met the man of my dreams who encouraged me to pursue my passion when my corporate job as an executive was being sourced out of the country.

This was a huge leap of faith. God was awesome! Not only did He send me the man of my dreams, but He also provided me with the best sister-in-law and business partner all at once. Sherrie Lee-Dennis has been a huge resource for Designs by GG. She has been baking and creating since she was in her teens. Her mother was one of the local bakers in Lima, Ohio, and trained her. She has a keen eye for detail and keeps me grounded. She has a flair for customer service when I’m in my creative zone.

We have been working together for the past year under the Texas Cottage Kitchen Laws in our South Irving location. Business has been great and we expect it to get even better. Earlier this year we had the privilege to do a carnival-inspired Big Top Cake for LeeAnne Locken from the Real Housewives of Dallas. We presented the cake to her at her lingerie bridal show, which will appear on the Bravo show later this year.

We are LGBTQ owned as well.

Sherrie is an ordained minister and provides this service to our clients as well.

Please tell us about your art.
We create edible art, specializing in custom flavors and designs. We can make a simple sheet cake or let our imaginations run wild by making 3D creations. Anything that our clients can desire, we are up to the challenge of creating it for them. We want our work to put that joyish smile on all of our clients’ faces. Knowing that we were able to bring their dreams to life with a sweet twist.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
We certainly feel that the role of the artists have changed. If we’re not staying up to date on designing or what the hottest trends are then were not getting business that we desire. There is no such thing as a “generic” cake anymore. We have to be ready to be able to make whatever the client wants.

Local, national, and international events really don’t affect our business.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We are very up to date on social media: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/DesignsbyGGcakes/, Instagram: instagram.com/designsbygg2008, and our website: designs-by-gg.business.site. We are also listed on Wedding Wire and Rainbow Wedding Network. We encourage our clients to schedule consultations for tasting and to discuss their dreams for the perfect event cake and sweets.
