Meet Haleigh Lenz of Creative Lenz in West Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haleigh Lenz.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a love for art but wasn’t exactly sure how it would fit into my life. Although drawing, painting, and photography seemed to come naturally to me, turning my talents into a career never felt like the right path until I found graphic design and illustration. I started taking online courses in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop while working in the service industry. I ended up running social media for restaurants that I worked for, and was making event posters and advertising graphics in my spare time. One ad campaign for a fine dining restaurant in Flower Mound caught the eye of a local design agency owner, and she offered me a job! I learned so much working for her and really fell in love with the creative process, and bringing other people’s businesses and ideas to life. Now, I work full time as a freelance designer and illustrator and absolutely love it. I work with so many different types of clients in varying industries, doing logo design, branding, web design, SEO, and print design.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I know what my strengths are, and I love the industry that I’m in, but running a business is never easy! The struggle is real when you are a creative person starting an LLC and having to learn about taxes and business permits and accounting. But honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love working for myself and having the freedom to be creative and artistic – while also making money and helping clients.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Creative Lenz is all about creating unique designs and illustrations to set my clients apart from their competition. I love designing beautiful logos, infographics, and print work, but designing and building a website is always really fulfilling. Most people don’t understand how much goes into creating a website, or how an SEO optimized, a mobile responsive, beautifully designed site can boost their business and search rankings. I want my clients to look professional and be successful, and for that their brand has to shine on every platform. From their business cards to their website – each design has to set them apart from everyone else.

What were you like growing up?
As a little girl, I was more interested in reading and drawing than pretty much anything else. In elementary school, I think I read almost every book in our library and won the literary award at 6th-grade graduation. The most effective form of punishment my parents could come up with when I was grounded or in trouble – was taking my books away. I’ve always loved nature, hiking, and photography, and grew up riding horses. In high school, I was the artistic friend who was president of NAHS (National Art Honors Society) and ate lunch in the art room so I could have more time to work on projects.
