Meet Tatiana Williams of Tatiilash in Desoto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tatiana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my business in November of 2018 with selling eyelash strips. I enrolled in IBeauty Academy to become a state licensed to eyelash technician. Working in corporate taught me a lot from time management to customer service skills. After putting in long hours, taking on management roles and networking within the company only to get a 50 cent raised, made me ask myself” How can I take this work ethic and put it into something I’m passionate about?” I researched different careers but nothing grabbed my attention except the potential salary. I found myself constantly talking about eyelashes, I’ve worn them since high school. With the encouragement of an old friend, I made a business plan and starting selling eyelashes as a way to introduce my passion for becoming a lash tech. I enrolled in night school while working full time and being a full-time mom to obtain my license. Many times, I wanted to give up but my daughter was watching me and encouraging me! A month before graduation, I was laid off! I was devastated but determined. I didn’t go to school just to go back to a work environment that drained me. My first set was horrible lol but I kept going. Three months later, my original lash tech/mentor discussed working in her new salon. Starting in June, I will be stepping into a brand new chapter at The BeautyPalace! Doing what I love and not just working for a paycheck. I prayed and prayed and God leads my decision to do what I love instead of working just cause I need a check.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? Not at all like we imagine. I’m a routine kind of girl. Go to work, work OT if I can, pick up my daughter and start the workday over. That’s smooth and easy, you know what’s expected. I switched jobs right before enrolling in school and worked from home. I still wasn’t happy but I needed the check. When I was laid off, I was scared. Sales were not as high with selling lashes and bills were still coming. I finished school and gained clients here and there but it wasn’t steady income like I’m used to. Thankfully, I saved for a rainy few months! However I still couldn’t bring myself to go back to work, I had to put my all into my passion.

Please tell us about Tatiilash.
My business is Tatiilash! What sets me apart from others is my license, my customer service, and work ethic! I put in long nights and weekends of practice and studying to make sure I’m prepared to give the best knowledge to my clients. My personality is what puts the icing on the cake! It’s not all about making money, it’s about making each client feel comfortable and catering to their personal needs at each appt. Some clients like to sleep, so I play certain music to accommodate. Some like to talk and relieve stress and I listen! It’s about making your clients look good and feel good!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When my grandma taught me to ride a bike! I was so nervous, I hopped off every time as soon as she let go. Weird memory right? No way, she said to me, you can’t get it if I’m always carrying you, you have to keep going but know I will be right here. I waited a few days and tried again. I fell a few times and scraped my knees but I kept going, I didn’t stop until I rode my first ride around the complex. It was one of the lessons taught that taught me to try!
