Meet Shakira Sergent of The Bailey Watson Real Estate Group Brokered by eXp Realty, LLC in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakira Sergent.

Shakira, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I came from a very traditional background where your parents pushed you to get a great education and go to college as a priority. I followed this tradition for the majority of my life. I graduated from college with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare. Traditional life worked for me until I got married and had a child. At that time, I was living in California and working for a major hospital in San Francisco. My commute was hectic, I had a new baby, and I was a Step-Mom and Wife. This traditional life set up was not working for me any longer. Although, I worked in the Healthcare field I always had a passion for Real Estate, Interior Design, and the ability to help others achieve their dreams and desires. Therefore, I decided to pursue my interest in the real estate field as a Real Estate Agent. I took online classes due to the flexibility it allowed and I took my California Real Estate exam and got my license. I quickly began working on growing my real estate business and I did with my first client being from social media. Real Estate in California is great and things were going good! However, after 2 1/2 years in California real estate, my husband and I decided to move to Dallas/Fort Worth where we had additional family. Once settled in after the move from California I received my real estate License in Texas also. Being a real estate agent licensed in California and Texas requires strategy but it’s manageable. I’m the type of individual that enjoys taking on challenges. Having the knowledge and ability to help streamline my client’s transition from one State to another is an honor. Although, real estate is not an easy career it has allowed me to commandeer my life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In addition, to being a Wife and a Mother becoming a Real Estate Agent/Entrepreneur was no easy task! Whatever you put into your business is what you get out of it. Nothing comes easy in life, especially when you’re starting from the ground up. Therefore, becoming the CEO of my own success overnight took a lot of courage, determination, consistency, and resilience. I think that in its self is the biggest challenge us Real Estate Professionals and Entrepreneurs encounter. I’m always encouraging people to just feel the fear but do it anyways! Because a true life lived is one overcoming one’s fears! Life is too short to be in an idle state of mind. If something needs to be changed in your life for you and your family to achieve happiness, do it! Feel the fear, but do it anyways!

I pride myself on being dedicated to fulfilling my client’s desires and doing so with the utmost integrity. I feel this style of business in real estate is great; not only am I helping clients with real estate I am gaining valuable relationships in the process.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As a little girl, I was always very nurturing to others. I was always making sure everyone was taken care of. Being the youngest of five children you would think I’d feel more entitled and hold others to a standard of making sure I was okay, vice versa. However, as a young girl, I remember times out shopping with my Mother, I’d always look for homeless people when we were out. I would hope we would have loose change in the car that I could give to someone. I loved the way I felt after making someone happy with the littlest form of action. In those moments I knew I’d grow up and help others. I did not know how but I knew I would. Now here I am years later helping people achieve their goals of selling, leasing and/or purchasing real property for themselves and family. I’ve learned from early childhood age, If and when you’re having a bad day help someone else and it’ll turn your day around. Life in general is no easy task but with the right mindset you can achieve anything!
