Meet Nick Lokken

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Lokken.

Nick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started in the music industry professional around the age of 21. That’s when I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Write songs, sing and perform them. I found a talent agency that put me in front of a bunch of talent scouts, was able to deliver and signed a record deal shortly after. Not only did that lead me to work with other producers, tour and have live television performances but it really showed me how the music industry and record labels worked. I learned quickly that it would be much healthier if I worked as an indie artist and set up my own deals instead of relying on a bunch of people that really didn’t know me, my heart or my vision. That’s what led to me to where I am now, working on a BRAND NEW music project with my lovely bride called “WILLOW+WIFE” (Coastal Pop Music). We are working with several great producers like Louie Flacco (Louie Felix), Cakeknife (Tyler Wirtz) and Yeeves out of Morocco, Africa. It’s pretty crazy. Sometimes, I have to shake myself to make sure life is still real since the music we are creating is so good. It’s really a dream come true.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely NOT been a smooth road haha! There have been many struggles along the way. I think the biggest one has been myself. So often I hear thoughts of, “You’re not good enough” or “You’ll never make it.” But that’s when you really have to trust your gut and push the pedal the max and keep going. Disney didn’t get built by a man who gave up right? Some of the other struggles would be not having a mentor or coach thru out this whole music endeavor. Everything I’ve learned has been from the first-hand experience. I’ve made some costly mistakes, signed some bad deals, gone through shady managers and so on, but if it wasn’t for those I would have never known what true, genuine deals and people look like.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m known as a recording artist, performer, songwriter, and producer. I specialize in entertaining crowds and letting them escape the normal worries of their work-week. I’m known for writing catchy, feel-good songs that are al 100% true and genuine that connect with peoples hearts. What sets me apart from other people is my drive, motivation, and persistence. Too many people in this business are in it for money or fame. If that was me I would have quit after my first year. I do this for the music. To push the limits, to merge genres and see where and how far we can make music. Music is the best medicine in my opinion. Everyone needs it, and I want to be the one that gives it the people.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very very active. I was heavily involved in any sport I could get into. Baseball, Basketball, Football, Track… the list goes on and on. I was also super involved in Extreme Sports like Motocross, Skateboarding, BMX, ANYTHING that made me go faster. I was also very social. Always around people and never went anywhere alone.
