Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthea Thomas.
Cynthea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a little girl, I was in pageants and to help raise money my mother would create and sell jewelry. Growing up, I would watch her create all sorts of jewelry and how much detail went into each piece she created. She did this for a few years even when I wasn’t in pageants until we moved to Red Oak around 2008. In that year, I worked retail until I would leave the industry and work a front office and accounting position. While I was working and attending college, I met my husband at church in Waxahachie of 2012 and got married in 2017. One of the things my mother gave me as we moved to Dallas were her tools and accessories for jewelry and craft making. I never saw myself as a crafty creative person, but I picked it up so it must run in the family!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the sacrifices I made was leaving my accounting job to move into North Dallas. I enjoyed what I did, however I knew the drive back and forth to Waxahachie would put stress on me and God knew I was stressed and needed a new change. I applied to a few places and did not hear anything back, so I took it as a sign to focus on my health and what the next step was for me. During this time is when I discovered Royal Madness Design and would be the start of something new.
Royal Madness Design – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well, I came up with “Royal” because of how my husband treats me as if I am Royal, always going above and beyond to make me feel special. Of course, “Madness” comes from a place of solitude when I was discovering myself and overcoming my fears. My items are music and worship inspired, so I let the music play and I create what I feel. I don’t make the same thing twice because it’s more of an “in the moment” and normally items don’t come out the same way again, haha! One thing people do tell me is how affordable my jewelry is, so that makes me know I am doing something right. When I am not making jewelry, I am upcycling earrings and necklaces for people and turning broken items into something new. Recently I have been making aluminum stamped bracelets as gifts, so this was a new challenge I faced but overcame! Proverbs 3:15 says “She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.” Royal Madness Design’s mission is to put this into action and make every person who wears RMD’s jewelry feel loved and special.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is growth and I’m still growing and learning something new each day. I can hope that with what I am doing I am making a difference in someone’s life today. This is only the beginning for me, so to see my journey continue and how far I will go is something to look forward to. I have ideas ready for the next step and I can’t wait to see where my journey will take me.
