Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Verdun.
Jillian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
If someone would have said I would be an entrepreneur, I would have said never. I started working as a part-time tax professional in 2005 for HR&Block. I did not like tax class in college but I figured real experience would be different and it was. I realized that I actually enjoyed assisting individuals and businesses with their tax preparation. I quickly discovered there was a need for more. I noticed that people needed education and resources alongside just preparation. People do better when they know better. In November 2007, I started my own business. My main goal was to make myself different from other firms, so I decided to focus on education. I was still working full time, teaching part-time as an adjunct professor for two universities, and growing my business. I am where I am today because of the support of friends, family, and other colleagues in the industry and the motivation to be successful.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles I encountered were the following:
1. Working a full-time job (40+ hours a week)
2. Working a part-time job (4 hours a week)
3. Believing in myself
4. Managing my time
5. Organization
6. Understanding and knowing where to start
