Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Harding and Christine Beard.
Jared and Christine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been doing CrossFit since 2009 when I first became a firefighter in Abilene, TX. I liked how competitive it was, that it pushed me on a daily basis and it kept me physically fit for being a firefighter. When I moved back to the DFW area, I continued to do CrossFit and eventually joined a gym where I began to coach as well. After coaching for around the three years, the opportunity came about for my wife and I to buy the gym. Another couple that worked out at the gym with us approached us and asked us if we would be interested in co-owning the gym with them. Shortly after we were buying a gym to make a difference in our community and continue to pursue our passion for fitness. The four owners of Cowtown CrossFit are all passionate about fitness and creating community in our area. Now we have owned the gym for almost one and half years and we are growing. We are excited to see what the future holds for us and our community.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning a gym is not always what is made out to be. We had to figure out what programming was going to be best for our members, learn how to run a gym and learn how to grow a gym as well. At times it felt like we were taking three steps forward and then two steps back with member growth. We have worked hard to base our gym on community and that has seemed to be what has helped us grow the most.
Please tell us about Cowtown CrossFit.
Cowtown CrossFit is a Crossfit gym that is based on functional movements that are constantly varied and performed at high intensity. We focus on teaching good mechanics to our athletes so that not only can they perform in the gym but in their every day lives as well. We want to instill confidence in our athletes inside and outside of the gym. We believe we do that by creating a positive community that people can blow of some steam from a hard day and get a good workout in. We focus on weightlifting and conditioning along with other aspects. We are most proud of our community. They are what makes Cowtown CrossFit and sets us apart from other gyms.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly do not think we would have done anything differently. Yes, we have made good and bad decisions along the way, but that is how you learn from mistakes and make your business better. No business is easy and there is not one way to run one. Being open to try new things along with hard work and determination is what makes a business successful.
