Meet Brooke Goodspeed of B. Good. Jewelry Design in Far North Dallas/Plano/Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Goodspeed.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brooke. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been a creative person and spent three years learning basic metalsmithing and jewelry making techniques in classes offered by my high school. Then I went to college and got a degree in biology—a totally different direction right? My artistic talents went on a vacation for a few years while I was in school. I didn’t start pursuing jewelry designing again until after graduation. In 2015, through mutual connections I’ve made, I began working for another local jewelry designer. Being in a creative environment again, my own designs began floating around in my head. I slowly started creating my own jewelry pieces and opened my Etsy shop, B. Good. Jewelry Design, in late 2015. I never thought I would own my own business, it’s not something that ever crossed my mind. Since then my style has evolved and business is growing. I enjoy setting up shop at local markets and festivals, you can find me downtown at least once a month.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. The easy part for me is designing jewelry, everything else takes lots of time. Photographing pieces, listing them on my website, setting up a booth at various markets, etc. I’m a one-woman show so sometimes things happen slower than I would like. My patience is definitely tested sometimes.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the B. Good. Jewelry Design story. Tell us more about the business.
Like I said, I’m a one-woman show. B. Good. Jewelry was born from a desire to create unique and affordable jewelry featuring natural stones and metals. I create pieces that range from simple to statement that showcase the beauty of the stones and findings in each piece. Most of my pieces have bohemian influences. I look for high-quality natural gemstones, like labradorite and moonstone, and pair them with unique metal findings. Recently, I’ve been pairing wood beads with beautiful gemstone pendants for someone of a kind necklaces. I work hard to create quality, affordable pieces that you’re not going to find anywhere else. Tassels are a big trend that I love right now, but I try hard to use them in different ways from other designers.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I try to seize every opportunity that may benefit my creative journey. Most of my business comes from selling at markets and festivals and those can be very dependent on circumstances beyond my control, like the weather. Outdoor events are always a bit of a gamble, especially in Texas’ springs, so I always need a bit of luck whenever I’m setting up at a market. I try to go in with no expectations; at this point I’ve done so many markets that I’ve seen what can go wrong so I always come prepared for anything.
