Meet Jamese Willis of The Willis Media Group in Grand Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamese Willis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
On the tail end of 2017, I had an overwhelming desire to interview people. I thought about doing a podcast or a radio show; however, this was territory that I knew nothing about. I prayed and told God “If this is something you want me to do I need you to guide me.” Within a matter of 30 days, I had a radio show mentor, $400 through donations and a new show entitled Life Lessons With J&J. The show’s premise was to bridge the gap between Millennials and Baby Boomers one life lesson at a time. I’m the millennial, my Dad is the Baby-Boomer, so we talked about issues that affect each demographic and how to deal with them through, common sense, helpful tips, and the Bible. The show debuted in Jan of 2018. I recently canceled because there’s new doors opening up and I felt it was time to move on. Through this radio show, I developed a love of all things media: radio, podcasts, social media development, editorials, etc. So I decided to start a media company (Jan 2019) that’s not hard on an entrepreneur’s pocket. At WMG we help people start and maintain their businesses and engage their client base.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, it has been a smooth ride because I was level headed and trusted that all things would work out. I really wanted to start my business in Jan of 2019; however, I didn’t have the money but I had faith. One of my friends called me and said “Did you build your website yet?” I said: “No.” She said: “How much is it?” She Cash App’d me the money and my website went live the very next day. I would say faith and preparation is what makes everything smooth because using the example above, my website was complete I just didn’t have the money to make it live, but I had faith.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Willis Media Group story. Tell us more about the business.
So we’re a media company: radio (moving toward podcast interviews), script writing, social media development (we maintain FB, IG, and Twitter creating and posting content for our clients), editorials (we go to events and write 1-4 page editorials that clients can use as marketing collateral), digital biographies, press kits, website design and panel moderation.

We specialize in telling our client’s story. Our tagline is: Your story is safe with us. Often times people are ashamed of their story, or they fear that their story isn’t important and we aim to make our clients feel comfortable and tell their story in a way that’s inspiring.

I’m proud that we’re in the business of telling stories that are important and impactful for our communities. What sets us apart is we’re a faith-based company, that is easy on the wallet, we provide excellent service, and we take time to truly build a relationship with our clients.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t call it luck I’d call it timing, intentionality, and active listening. One of the things I’ve learned is that if you’re consistent and grateful in the place you find yourself, more will become available to you. Although I work a 40hr a week job, I work WMG on the side and sometimes that’s challenging; however, I remain grateful and there are new clients popping up continuously. I said active listening because often the same theme will pop up in a week, month or year. You have to listen to the road signs along the way to align with time. I mentioned intentionality because I’m intentional about my relationships and how I spend my time.
