Conversations with the Inspiring Adriana Nava

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Nava.

Adriana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew the love for the beauty industry after watching makeup tutorials on YouTube! I wanted to be apart of it, and began practicing on friends, then began taking makeup clients. I soon realized I wanted to do more. I wanted more services to provide as a professional. Soon, I began my journey in lashing in September of 2018. I enrolled in Learn Lash Repeat Training Academy where I took a 320-hour classic lash extension course. Quickly after beginning the hands-on segment of the course, lashing became a passion. I wanted to practice more and more. That’s when I realized, I found what I loved doing! With help from my instructor, I learned to perfect my craft, and give only the best work I am able to provide! It has not been an easy path for me, but with determination, and practice, I have become a better lash artist. I devote time to my craft, I practice on family, and friends before providing a new service. I also have them to thank for where I’m at today!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely, no, it has not been a smooth road. However, every single bump I hit was a lesson learned. As I previously mentioned, my training course required 320 hours to graduate. I currently was (still am) employed full time. It was a very difficult three months of my life. Trying to complete the course within the deadline to avoid fees, and working full time to make ends meet was the toughest! I completely recommend doing your research before choosing a school/a course. Make sure your school is registered through TDLR so you are able to obtain a license for lash extensions, as it is needed in Texas. Another piece of advice is to never give up! It is not easy, ever. It only gets tougher, but very worth it!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As a lash artist, and I consider myself to be specialized in Volume/Hybrid eyelash extensions. I believe this part of my work is what I am best known for. Most clients I see want a beautiful full set, they want their eyelashes to be noticeable for afar. Being able to provide stylishly, but yet HEALTHY services for people is what sets me aside from others. I take pride in lashing every client that lays on my lashing bed, HEALTHY. I take pride in NOT jeopardizing the health of their NATURAL lashes, but still fulfilling the look that they want! This I am the proudest of, not only because I am able to give the client what they were dreaming of having, but also because I am able to educate them, in why such decisions were made while I lashed them. That is truly satisfying, and the most important part of my job.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
We live in a generation where social media, and technology rule most of our day! My greatest piece of advice as far as networking is, put it to use! Instagram, facebook, twitter, are the most common apps used by my generation, and the best part is they are free! Use that as an advantage to promote your work! It is a free advertisement. Set a goal of 2 or 3 posts a day! Keep your followers engaged in your services. Find somebody whose work you absolutely love, reach out to them, ask questions! Most people in this industry love to share their knowledge.
