LaKeisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Over the years, I have collected over a hundred pair of shades. To me, sunglasses are a statement piece and a conversation started. After all the purchases I have made from different boutiques, I knew that I could provide the same shades at a cheaper price with a good profit. We are in a day and age where saving is essential. So, why not start with an accessory all women love. I ran the idea by my biggest supporter and he gave me the push that I needed… that is how Shady Specs by Ke was established!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never smooth it’s always a few bumps in the road. Sometimes you feel like it’s a popularity contest if you do not have a huge following or stay on the scene people won’t buy from you. Your likes and shares don’t convert to sales. You feel like you are failing and need to give up. Giving up has never been a thing for me. I reached out to different outlets and collaborated with other people. My sales went up and can only get better. I am most thankful for my out of state customers without them I probably would have stopped Shady Specs by Ke.
Shady Specs by Ke – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I provide affordable, celebrity inspired sunglasses to my customers that will not break the bank. I am known for running weekly sales for my customers that they love. I am most proud of my company’s customer service. It is nothing like reading an email or review about how good your customer service is. Great customer service can set you apart from someone selling the exact same thing as you and leads to returning customers.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I was the proudest of an order I received from Canada. The customer sent me a lengthy email about how great my service was and how it has never gone so smoothly with another company from the United States. I received compliments from the quality of the shades to my packaging, and the mailer I sent the shades in. Things like that just know your mission is needed in the business.
