Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Harrison.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Erica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a licensed cosmetologist for over 15 years. When I started in the industry, I couldn’t get my bearings because I was a young mother and wife and I didn’t feel like I had work/life balance. I also struggled with being a small business owner and not being able to financially provide for my family on a consistent basis. So, I went back into corporate.
While I have flourished in the Human Resources field in Corporate America, I still felt the need to go back into this billion-dollar beauty market. Last year, for my 40th birthday, I gifted myself with a small suite in Carrollton, TX after taking a certified eyelash extension and waxing course.
My ultimate goal within the next five years is to expand the Self Love Suite into a spa offering various beauty treatments and holistic beauty care.
Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely has NOT been a smooth road-but then again-who ever said life wouldn’t have challenges. Being a small business owner takes dedication, education, and patience. There will be sleepless nights, low bank accounts, friends that are upset because you have no time to spend with them and tears. But, what doesn’t kill you will always make you stronger.
It’s about having a good support system of family and friends. I’m so thankful for everyone in my circle that has allowed me to practice beauty treatments on them or being an ear, allowing me to vent.

The Self Love Suite is an eyelash extension and waxing studio. Right now, that is the focus. I also train other cosmetologist and estheticians on these treatments. Right now, eyelash extensions and lash lifts are very popular! I’m sure as I grow, I’ll add other services to the menu.
I am most proud of the fact that I didn’t give up on the industry just because I fell out of love with doing hair. I had to realize that there are so many other aspects of being in the beauty industry and I just had to find one that I enjoy doing and rock it out!
I want my clients to feel appreciated and loved when they come into my suite. I want them to understand that beauty services are enhancements and even if they don’t have them, they are still beautiful in their natural state of being.
I am uncertain on what sets me apart from others because I’m so focused on being the best version of myself that I haven’t even looked around to notice a difference.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas-Ft. Worth is so huge and we’re constantly growing! I think it’s a great place to start a small business provided that your network and educate yourself on the market. Using any available marketing tool is also a plus. I had to learn to not be afraid to speak up or speak out. My ask of our community is to really think about where you’re spending your dollars before you make a purchase. Ask yourself if you know anyone that provides the service or sells the goods that you are looking for. Start there, support your community first.
