Today we’d like to introduce you to Adele Edwards.
Adele, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always adored writing. From the moment I could hold a pen, I’ve written stories. I wrote my first book at the age of six–it was messy and childlike, lined with crude drawings, and you knew just from the handwriting that a child wrote it. But it was finished and it was mine and I was proud of it. That story made me realize I wanted to write more than anything else in the world. Since then, I’ve found such a joy in creating new worlds and characters, and the flow of pen on paper has been as natural to me as breathing. I’ve written across multiple genres and mediums, experimenting with new styles and exploring the depths of what I can create over the years.
About a year ago, I discovered a community of writers on YouTube called Authortube. I had already been uploading content on the platform for a while–mainly videos about lifestyle and productivity–and I was so excited to find a community of other writers who share their writing journeys through videos. Since then, I’ve been creating Authortube content on my own channel, documenting my writing process and my journey to publication. It has been an incredible experience and my channel has grown beyond what I could imagine. I am excited to keep writing and sharing my writing journey in order to fulfill my goals of becoming a published author and supporting and encouraging other writers.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life does not always go according to the plan you have set for yourself, which is something I am still learning. It has not been an easy road. I have struggled immensely with my mental health throughout my life, and it got to a point in high school where I lost the joy of writing creatively for about three years. My daily life felt empty and dull, and that lack of passion for my writing affected me more than I knew. I was able to get help for my mental health and find that spark once more, but it has not been easy. Writing is harder than one may think. Avenues for comparison are everywhere, self-criticism is a common killer, and the thought of staring at a blank page for hours can be devastating. As cliche as it sounds, balance truly is key, and that is something I still struggle with.
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
Honesty and openness are very important to me, and I try to be as real as I can on my channel when showing the daily life of a writer. I strive to encourage and support other writers, whether that may be through offering writing advice when I can, connecting on a personal level with my subscribers, or simply being genuine about my feelings and mental health in my videos.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories is from when I was about six years old. I lived in Georgia with my parents and my younger brother in a quaint white house that I thought (and still do think) was the cutest little house in the world. On this particular night, it was storming–flashes of brilliant light graced the sky and great claps of thunder seemed to shake the very ground. This white house had a small covered porch, and my parents left the front door open during this storm as we watched the rain pour from the heavens from the safety of our porch. Every time one of those skeleton-white streaks of light blazed across the sky or a bout of thunder resonated through our bones, my brother and I squealed with excitement and ran to the living room, throwing ourselves into the cushions of the couch. Seconds later after it passed, we would run back to the porch and do the same thing again. This little game thrilled me to my core and I still feel that spark of excitement during every storm.

What a great article to encourage other writers as well as anyone experiencing mental health issues.
