Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxann Breyer.
Roxann, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got started in the education field because of my love of mathematics and being around young people. Students keep me energized and I appreciate the challenge of teaching math to students who struggle with learning. Searching for creative strategies to help students learn would keep me up at night. Over my time at Hill School I have worn many hats-teaching, coaching, facilitating and leading. While I enjoy being the Head of School at Hill, I still need to visit classrooms regularly to feel the joy of learning and working with students.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My job has been fairly smooth. My biggest struggle is to be sure that all students are receiving my best work every day-they deserve it!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hill School of Fort Worth – what should we know?
For over 45 years, Hill School has provided students who learn differently with a specialized education in a supportive environment. Our mission is to provide progressive educational services in a safe and student-centered environment for bright, motivated students who learn differently. Our efforts embody our core values of engagement, partnership, opportunity, determination, and independence for students who have struggled in traditional learning environments.
Serving the needs of the total child is an important element of a Hill School education and we are unique in Tarrant County for offering a full-service program for children who learn differently. Our students have opportunities to hone their academic skills and participate in athletics, fine arts, and community activities. Building a program that combines the best of full-academic and affinity programming with small group instruction has proven to be the key to Hill student success. Making authentic learning accessible to all students is a common feature in all academic divisions.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The two characteristics I view most important in my job are listening and observing.
