Meet Lee Ann Clark of Sugar Mama Cookies in Marble Falls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Ann Clark.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started as all great bakeries do, in my home kitchen, in 2009. We opened a retail storefront four years ago (2016) in the quaint little shopping village of Old Oak Square. In the four years of doing retail, we have outgrown our building and this past December 2018, we double the size of our building, but got to stay in the same spot! We have done cookies for Ben Crenshaw, Sergio Garcia, Marinda Lambert, and many of the Texas Country singers. We do custom hand decorated sugar cookies, cakes, cupcakes. In the bakery, besides the sugar cookies, we carry fresh brownies, lemon bars.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think our greatest challenges are staffing and learning to say no- so I can go to bed!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sugar Mama Cookies – what should we know?
We specialize in hand-decorated sugar cookies. We are known for our wonderful cakes and how moist they are. I think I am most proud of the fact I built this business for the ground up- one cookie cutter at a time. It’s not uncommon to sale over 80 dz hand decorated sugar cookies in three days! Our sugar cookie not only looks cute but taste GREAT… that sets us apart for others!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have many that are my support team- my husband is number one. My daughters do the PR/Advertising/ ordering and come help whenever I need it. My assistant Theisa Short is my right hand, left hand, and half my brain! My main decorating team: Lisa Schumacker, Malinda Meyers, Carrie Bauer, Carol Henderson and our fill-in Marti Futrell make it all happen! I can’t leave out our Saturday crew that finish out the week and does all the cleanup, Ellysa Zoller and Sloan Wenmohs.
