Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Patterson.
Angela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
This journey actually started at a major life transition – my divorce. In 2012, I began an 18-month separation and divorce process that was heartbreaking, brutal, and traumatic. Thankfully, I had a great job and coworkers, and amazing friends who took me in and sheltered me through this process, both literally and figuratively. I’d always believed in God and gone to church, but it was this experience that gave me a real relationship with God. In fact, it’s what saved me during that point in my life. Knowing what a guide and comfort my faith was to me at that time, I often wondered how others made it through life without any sort of spiritual center or guidance – it seemed just too hard to go it alone.
It would turn out to be that one thought that would catapult me into my life purpose. As I tried to heal from my divorce, I consumed everything I could get my hands about religion, spirituality, nutrition, alternative healing, etc. I realized that our spirituality encompasses so much more than just going to church – it’s a lifelong quest to find healing and purpose that involves every facet of our lives. Yet, we’ve often treated our spirituality as a siloed entity, not realizing that most of our life experience is an integration of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – if there is a problem in one area, it will surely manifest in another! My own journey pushed me to devote my life’s work to belief and spirituality and to produce thought leadership, products, and services that will help people lead their best spiritual lives.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing about this journey has been smooth! About a year after my divorce was final, I quit my high-paying but stressful job, and moved from Tennessee back to my home state of Texas…without having a job lined up here. I have an amazing best friend who supported me and this move and was prepared to financially help until I could get on my feet, but I knew that God was guiding me and the Universe was supporting me. It was a scary leap, but I took it – and found a job here within 30 days of moving. Life here in Dallas has been a series of ups and downs, but each struggle and setback has led me closer to fulfilling my life purpose doing this spiritual work. I might have struggled with jobs I didn’t like, but being in that place of discomfort pushed me to get real clarity on how to live out my calling, and gave me the funds to pursue it. I’ve experienced physical and emotional challenges, but each of them has given me information and insight to better guide my work and my products. My struggles along this path of rebuilding my life actually served as the blueprint for how to move my life purpose forward.
Please tell us about 3126 Enterprises.
While spirituality has always been a part of my life, it was not always part of my professional path. I started out as a newspaper reporter, then worked for years in corporate communications; I still have a real passion for media and the written word. So as I thought about how to operationalize this new life purpose into viable and tangible offerings, I knew I wanted to use media and communication in a way that helps lift up the conversation about spirituality on a macro level but also serves as a powerful tool on a micro level.
That led to the creation of my company, 3126 Enterprises. The name 3126 comes from Proverbs 31:26, which states, “she opens her mouth with wisdom, and the law of kindness is on her tongue.” 3126 Enterprises is comprised of three sub-brands:
AP, media psychologist: This is my personal brand as a media psychologist. I’m currently in the homestretch of my doctoral program in media psychology, which is the study of how all forms of media interact with psychological processes. My research focuses on how digital and mobile media affects how we develop our faith and belief structures. After I graduate, I hope to research and write on this topic, especially focusing on women and/or marginalized communities.
Angela Patterson Writes: This is my creative writing practice as a writer and workshop facilitator. I create and deliver writing workshops that help people tap into spiritual wants, needs, desires, and pain points through structured exercises. These workshops can be customized to any length or desired outcome, and are great for women’s groups, retreats, or any other small gathering.
Restore Wellness: This is my wellness brand. Our bodies are our temples, but they can often serve as a barrier to leading full lives. Restore Wellness enhances spirituality through Reiki (a Japanese healing technique of which I’m a certified Master), essential oil blends treating issues with hair and scalp, as well as emotional imbalances, and custom juices for detox.
Taken together, these are offerings that address the whole person, which is crucial for leading the best spiritual lives possible – no aspect can be overlooked or ignored. It’s my hope that as all three of these areas develop, they’ll inform one another to create even stronger offerings for individuals and the collective as I move forward.
