Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Smith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Blissful Weddings & Events was born out of a passion for wanting to serve others and a love for bringing people together to celebrate life’s greatest celebrations and accomplishments.
Being very family oriented, enjoying seeing people be happy, and the pure bliss of spreading the joy to other people’s lives all while creating the most beautiful and memorable events is what lead me to become a certified wedding and event planner.
I started planning weddings in 2011 as a hobby. While going to college, I never really knew it was what I would be pursuing as a career until after my first daughter was born in 2012. Once I began planning and designing her birthday parties and bringing everyone together was when I knew I wanted to become an event planner.
From that moment on, I attended college at Texas A&M University as well as Lovegevities Wedding Planning Institute where I learned how to be a business owner and a professional wedding and event planner. After becoming certified, the road to owning my own business and planning weddings and events for a living flourished! I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with the sweetest couples, and have even interned with celebrity wedding planners and designers, David Tutera, and Preston Bailey. Getting to learn even more from some of the industries top planners was incredible and very beneficial to be able to create the best events for my clients.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Everyone has their own journey and story to tell. For me, its all about balance and not taking on more than you can handle to be able to give each client your full attention to detail so they can be able to enjoy their big day and know that you are capable of running things smoothly as planned. The best advice I have received is, “Your business will grow as you grow.” It’s important to start at the bottom to learn, and grow, and be the best you can be. That creates an experience, lessons learned, and growth to better serve others. That’s what this industry is all about, hospitality. Another lesson I’ve learned during my experience is community over competition. You will go even further by supporting others than you would be trying to outrun them. Support your community, share with them in their successes even if you may not be getting as much business as them at that same time, and encourage them to keep going. Kindness can go a long way. I believe with God and good company anything is possible!
Please tell us about Blissful Weddings & Events.
We are considered to be a one-stop shop for anyone planning their wedding, baby shower, graduation, proposal, you name it! There are also a la carte options because no event is ever the same and everyone’s needs are different. I really wanted to engage my skills and talents to offer people more than just one service. From my experience, it eliminates a lot of stress and time by being able to go to one vendor who can provide all of your needs. Which is why at Blissful Weddings & Events, we provide full and partial planning, event design, coordinating the day of, and floral design.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
When finding a mentor or networking, seek those that share the same interests and tastes as you so you can perfect your craft and skills. It is also important to meet and learn from others that may not have the same business title as you to be able to relate to different scenarios and solve any occasion that may arise.
I have met some of the nicest “friendors” within the wedding and event industry that have even helped my business grow even more. You can never go wrong by being nice and sharing your own experiences and skills with others!
