Meet Diandra Hooper of DeafBae “Social Media Personality” in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diandra Hooper.

Diandra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was suffering from depression and got tired of people putting me down because of my inability to hear. One day, I started making funny videos to show the whole world that I’m not scared of expressing myself and not allow anyone to put me down just because I’m deaf.

As I was battling from depression, my mother passed away, I wanted to find peace & happiness. And BOOM! I found something that would make me feel better, COMEDY. I decided that I wanted to make funny videos to brighten someone’s day whether they are depressed or having a bad day at work or whatever. I’ve realized that I got one life to live so I kept pushing, then I found peace and happiness within myself, and found the passion to be creative on social media by producing funny content.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Financial struggles.

What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I got my first start as a “Social Media Personality” joining a facebook group called “Room 21”, it is a popular Facebook group chat for “Roasting”, in which means Comedians are known to roast each other, telling one joke after another, or mocking a person. When I entered the room, everybody noticed I was that I was deaf, and because they saw that I looked good, I was suddenly labeled “The first pretty deaf girl that went live” so they decided to call me “Deafbae.”

Shit got real so fast, I became popular and also made “Room 21” popping cause the haters kept posting dumb stuff about me all day every day then I made it to “Worldstar” and it went viral.

People all over the world recognized me and noticed that I am different than others due to the fact that I am legally deaf, and I am naturally a comedian. It’s rare that you come across someone like me, with the best of both worlds, I’m deaf and have a sense of humor. Might as well call me a “Unicorn” baby and I’m just me, there is nobody else like me out there!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My manager Miss Tee helping me to get bookings for music video, photo shoots, events, clothes line, more, etc. She also helping me to start my business, and to be successful. And my mentor Ebony Watson known as @premiumgeek) is the real MVP for connecting/networking with producers in the entertainment field and work in screen/television platforms because she believes in me, that I have what it takes to be on television network platforms.
