Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Cross.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Where do I start? The basics: I was born in Oklahoma, I’m a Taurus, was raised in Texas and I’m a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl with a love for sneakers. I was in love with two things growing up: sports and art. I spent all of my time either ballin on the court, running on a track or painting/drawing in a studio. My love for art grew as I went on to college and pursued my BFA in Interior Design at the University of North Texas. I have since had a more than a successful career in Dallas as a nationally certified Registered Interior Designer working my way to the Design Director role at a nationally recognized high-end hospitality design firm. I currently work alongside Dallas’ elite and have collected many interior design awards along the way. Fast forward about 15 years in the Interior Design industry and like a scene from a movie, I was presented with the opportunity to work alongside an NFL player to create my first pair of custom sneakers. That opportunity opened the door for the perfect creative outlet that combines my obsession with sneakers with my love for art. Along the way, I have had the honor to work with some of the biggest names, coolest brands, and creative kids with my designs.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been bumpy, but it’s been kind of a long road to professional success. A lot of trial and error, finding the right materials and techniques, and developing my personal style/voice has been trying, to say the least.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I customize anything and everything, there is no limit, but mainly know for footwear and handbags. Danielle Elyse Artistry Studio (@de.artistrystudio) is a one-woman shop built on being unique and different, to satisfy every client that seeks to express themselves in a unique way. Sneakers/streetwear for the culture from MY perspective created for those looking to separate themselves from the crowd. Each custom is hand painted and made to order, no two customs are the same.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Jesus and my parents deserve all the credit. My parents have let go, doubted, pushed and encouraged me all at the same time to continue to move forward and always do better than the last. Sometimes, they doubt what I’m doing, and my personality uses that as fuel to get it done. Part of me has done plenty of things outside my comfort zone just to prove them wrong, especially my Dad. I think that’s his way of using reverse psychology to motivate me and push me forward. Well, it worked!
