Today we’d like to introduce you to Coezy.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started making music about three years ago just putting songs on SoundCloud to see what they’d do. Crazy thing is my first song I put on there got 300k+ plays. But honestly my only motivation was the fact that God put it on my heart to keep going and that’s just how it happened. You can ask anybody that knows me in the city I was never a rapper, singer whatever. I hooped that’s all I’ve ever been known for. I moved out here from Mississippi 12 years ago and hooped until after my first year in college and I’ve been on this journey ever since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Road ain’t been smooth at all. Like I said I started about three years ago and have been in school the entire time and balancing all that was never easy. From about a year ago up until now is when I really started trying to build a team around me to make it real. And just take that step to really commit myself to what it is I’m trying to do and show not only myself what I’m capable of but also the ones who didn’t believe in me and still don’t. Any artist doing anything in this area knows how tough it is to get people on board with what you got going on but me and my manager already know that go out here off top so we took a different route and wanted the music to speak for itself and not try and force it down people’s throats by doing all that extra. And just like we wanted, it’s doing what it needs to. I also grew up in a single parent household with just me and my mom. And if anybody has grown up like that they know struggles come and go with that the whole way. So anybody trying to make something of themselves coming from circumstances like mine I tip my hat to em because it’s not easy by no means.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I make music. I’m mostly proud of just how far me and my team has come in just a short amount of time. Without them and God I know for a fact I wouldn’t be where I am in this right now. They give me the motivation to keep going and the confidence for me to believe I’m one of the best if not the best artist in this area. I think what sets me apart from others like I said earlier I ain’t with all that extra. I’m not on the scene like that at all and I ain’t tied into anybody from out here music wise. And that could hurt me in the long run by not connecting with other artists in the city like I could but we good. I’m willing to take that risk.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is simple. Once I’m able to retire my mom and bless everyone around me where they ain’t never worried about anything and can do what they want when they want. That’s when I know we won.
