Meet Bootha Vandross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bootha Vandross.

Bootha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My music career started back in the early 90’s as apart of a local Dallas hip hop group P.O.E. (Productz Of my Environment). After the group disbanded myself & my brother hopped on a Greyhound bus headed to Oakland, CA to assemble with friends whom had secured a record deal on the infamous record lable C-Note Records (home of Dru Down & Tha Luniz).

During this me & my rap partner formed Loose Cannons & recorded our 1st professional song while appearing on Da Productz ‘Lavish Lifestyles’ album. After that period of time was over…I disbanded Loose Cannons & returned to Dallas, TX…where I would then revamp the group & start out on a new mission. LCs had a prominent 15 yr. run with a heap of music, shows, interviews, and a multitude of guest appearances with other artists. During this time under the guidance of longtime friend Christopher “Tip Toe” Williams (CEO of ARI Music Group) we recorded our first EP with famed producer Rod ‘KP’ Kirkpatrick (Def Squad), inked a digital distribution deal with Oakland, CA based 710Digital, and also signed a music licensing deal with Los Angeles, CA based Atom Factory Inc. It also led to a promo campaign opportunity extended directly from Roc Nation Apparel Emory “Vegas” Jones.

After it was all said & done…I found myself immersed in a solo career in 2013. Not knowing how that would pan out I jumped in head first & released my 1st project ‘CONVERSATION PIECE.’ The project was a concept that found me having a conversation with the late great Malcolm X. It turned into a whirlwind as I was also starting to develop my brand ‘beVocal. The project features three videos & song placements from the US to overseas. This all led to meeting a lot of prominent artists via social networking and shows, including a producer from Rimini, Italy by the name of Luca Mina aka Aniki Beats. We had a mutual respect for each other’s work & decided to record some songs & it eventually led to my second solo effort, ‘A CLASSIC REVIVAL.’ Simply put…the project is “my ode & appreciation to this art form we call Hip Hop!

In 2016, myself and my brother rejoined as Loose Cannons; and currently working on our latest project after a five years hiatus.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road when you’re involved in the entertainment industry…especially music. I’ve seen it all…bad record deals, shady promoters, dealings with undermining record execs, and the number one evil….friends who turn envious of your success.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Well, music is my first order of business. I specialize in being a well rounded & dope MC. My proudest moment to date occurred recently when I received a royalty check from a song that Loose Cannons recorded back in 2012 called ‘Nobody Does It Better.’ When I pulled my ASCAP report & found out who had been playing the song…it was a humbling experience. The song has been played on MTV’s reality show Ex On The Beach (Australia), The Adam and Eve Show (New Zealand), NBC Today (Australia), Ice Stars TV series (UK), & countless of other radio spins, streams, & airplay in 20 other countries.

I’m also working on building my brand ‘beVocal’, which encourages generations to express issues of condemnation & disconnected societies through a united voice.

It may sound cliche, but I try to let my voice & my actions set me apart from my peers.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Knowing that I have music that is playing in 20 countries outside of the U.S.
