Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I entered my first courtroom around two years old and my grandpa was on the bench. He ruled the room and I remembered thinking I want to do that one day. Fast forward 23 years and I had my first hearing in that same courtroom. He sat two rows behind me. My biggest fan. Two years ago, my brother became an attorney and my 93 years old Grandpa took the bench one last time to swear him in. He was the root of my love for the law and I am so thankful to have been there his last time in the courtroom.
I dabbled with a few different career ideas along the way, but ultimately Law was always for me. I spent the first five years of my career with a firm in Dallas learning the ropes. In 2012 I took a leap of faith and started Davis Law Office. At the time, I was pregnant with my first son and wanting balance as a working mom. It was scary, but looking back it was the best career decision I have made.
The first few years I was a full-time mom and part-time attorney. Talking to clients on the phone with a crying baby in the background was not ideal. As my boys got older and started school I was able to focus on growing my law practice. With a heavy dose of past client referrals and fellow attorney referrals my business has flourished.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Is the road ever smooth? My career looks very different than I envisioned it leaving law school, but God always has a better plan.
I am often asked why I chose personal injury. I didn’t. It was my first job offer out of Law School and I really felt like I was supposed to take it. I knew nothing about Personal Injury except the zany TV and Radio Commercials, and to be honest I had judged it.
One of the biggest hurdles is getting over the stigma of an ‘ambulance chaser’ and showing people I can help them. The fact that a significant portion of my business comes from past client referrals shows that I really help. Once I close a case for someone I am usually representing a family member or friend shortly there after. People are confident choosing Davis Law Office over other attorneys when someone they know is bragging for us.
Unfortunately, many people make the mistake of trying to work with insurance companies on their own not understanding how the claims process works. When that happens they often cost themselves a significant amount of settlement money in the end. The best thing an injured person can do after a car accident or slip and fall is contact an attorney immediately.
Please tell us about Davis Law Office.
Davis Law Office is a full-service Personal Injury Law Firm. We help injured people get what they deserve. When people are hurt the last thing they want to do is deal with an insurance company. We meet our clients whenever and wherever they are, often in a Hospital room. Once we are hired to represent a client we handle everything from that point forward. Many cases settle without going to court, but when insurance companies are being unreasonable we are happy to file a lawsuit to protect our client’s rights.
I often hear from clients that our firm stands out because of the personal touch. My job is to make sure my clients fully understand the claims process, know what stage of the process we are in, and ultimately get the money they deserve.
My favorite part of the job is giving clients BIG checks on closing day! When I meet a client to close out their case and see the smile on their face when I hand them their check, it makes it all the work worth it. When I first meet an injured client they usually have mountains of medical bills, are confused and frustrated by insurance companies trying to quickly settle for less than they deserve, and just need help. By the time I close out a case my client’s bills are paid and I am writing them a check. Closing days are why I call my job a Happy one.
One of the best moments since I since opening my firm was last summer. I settled one of my biggest cases and my family went on vacation to celebrate. About 10 minutes after getting on the plane, my client from that case walked on the plane with her husband. They were celebrating too. We hugged on the plane and flew together from DFW to Miami. We caught up in the Miami airport and snapped a picture before flying to different tropical destinations. She started as a client but is now a friend. It was such a blessing to get to be included in her celebration.
Our firm is different because we genuinely care about our clients. We are there for them when they are hurting and don’t know where to turn and we get to be there with them when they are celebrating in the end. My job is simply helping people. Getting to know my clients and their stories along the way is a huge bonus.
What were you like growing up?
I was the “involved in everything” kid. I was the oldest of three kids and growing up there were lots of jokes about the number of team sports signs in our front yard. I vividly remember in elementary school my parents initiated mandatory 6am family runs before school. We had matching outfits and were well known in the neighborhood. My work ethic and competitive spirit were instilled in me from a young age has made me who I am today.
We also spent a lot of time on the lake growing up. These days whenever we do not have kid activities in town, you will find us on a lake somewhere. I was on the waterski team at The University of Texas (Hook ‘em!) and am already teaching our boys how to surf.
