Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Andra Cooper.
D’Andra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
About three years ago, a group of friends and I attended socialite parties locally and nationally to network. It was at this time, I recognized the diverse beauty in our society and the limitations placed on women with non-traditional qualities. I had a passion for modeling and promotion and wondered how I could impact women. Thus, came the ideas of the Q’Lick Pretty (pronounced clique) movement.
The goal was to put a women empowerment group together to help others go for their dreams, overcome insecurities and embraces their differences. As a result, I brought together women with modeling dreams who formed a sisterhood. Initially, challenges and rejection came due to us not fitting the traditional modeling images. However, I didn’t want to be like everyone else so I intentionally thought outside of the box. With QP, you don’t have to change who you are. We welcome the unconventional, nontraditional every day around the way girl. We provide professional skills training so they can have the proper tools, along with their will to succeed, to assist them in reaching their dream. What drives me are the people who said that I couldn’t do it. I believe that what society and social media perceive as beauty is a bit off from what may reflect. Now, we have to make a believer out of them.
Our motto is beauty against the odds. I believe that the sky is truly the limit for all women of all ethnicities. Q’lick Pretty is a group of motivated and ambitious women who are using modeling as a gateway and forefront to expose their many talents and entrepreneurial goals. The ladies have various skills and talents that are an asset to the company such as MUA’s, estheticians, cosmetologist, designers and more. I will continue to build my brand, network and help the members achieve their goals. My goal for the Q’lick Pretty Movement is to become nationally known for empowering woman and encouraging them to reach for their highest potential.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has is it been smooth? Nothing is ever smooth or easy, you definitely have to grind it out, a lot of tiring nights being up late, researching as much as possible and networking gotta rub a few shoulders and keep supporting your local and national companies, to all the young ladies , I tell them “go for what you love and invest into yourself and dream if you won’t nobody else will.”
We’d love to hear more about Q’Lick Pretty Movement/Agency.
A group of motivated and ambitious women who are using modeling as a gateway and forefront to expose their many talents and entrepreneurial goals.
I am most proud of seeing QP models support another as a unit and their hard work come to life, in their photos, runway shows, and events.
We are what society say you cant be and beating the odds
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Our biggest barrier is non-support from each other, insecurities and no self-love, once females can overcome there will infidelity be a change in society.
